Tutorial help please

I want to make a journal for my sister. Actually it's more of an appointment book for my sister. She's going on next year to go get her PhD in psychology and she's already got a crazy schedule. I always start on christmas gifts early because I hate being under a time crunch. So I was thinking what could I make for her that would be special and I started thinking I could make her a journal but a journal isn't really her type of thing, I don't think. So I want to make something special and I thought, make an appointment book. I can make the book and get the pages to insert for her and that way it'd be something she could use and be personal.
So if anyone has any knowlege of tutorials and can help me out on where to start, I'd really really REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks a million ladies.

Oh, that's a hard one. I don't know if I can find anything, but I will look. What about a calendar, for her desk in a way. If I find a kit like that, do you think you can alter it to make it larger and more of an appt book?

Off to search for you!

Ok, here's what I found. Our local scrapping store bought kits to make your own calendars. This is the closest thing I could find. It's pretty much the same thing. I really truly want this for myself, so I enjoyed looking for it! Lol

This is another thing. I found this link in an old magazine. It says customize a journal, but they also had adaptable planners. The photos on the link doesn't do it justice. The photos in my mag give you more ideas of what you could do with it. Here's the link.

I hope this helps. These are the two closest things I could find. Biggrin

You could also just buy a planner and alter the front and back!

I would do what Ash said and buy a planner, then embellish the front and back and you could even add some stuff on the inside page dividers or something.

Thats what I was kind of thinking but I'd need to start with one in the two colors it will be. Teal and Chocolate Brown.

If you're willing to do some digital work, I would recommend customizing the planner pages that way. And do an altered cover.

I'm not too much help .... but good luck!

I don't have any digital programs. I do all my stuff the old fashioned way.
Mostly cause I can't afford photo shop but it also makes it very personal for my family.

I just use Print Shop ($40) and Scrapbook Factory ($30). I didn't want to spend $70 for PhotoShop elements (let alone the $300 for the full version!). Wink

...

My thought about the digital pages was that you could add pictures/quotes/special messages onto calendar pages and they could withstand the wear and tear of the pages being turned all the time. And they wouldn't add bulk to the inside pages, either. But then you could personalize the inside as well as the cover.

Good luck with the project! Hope you find the inspiration/help you need to make it work. Smile

Beth thanks for the info and good ideas. Hopefully by christmas I'll have this done. This is why I don't like waiting until the last minute. I'd be scrambling.

i agree i would just take a pre-existing planner you like... doesn't necessarily have to be in the colors you want.... could just be very plain and you could add embellishments and stamp in the colors you want on the inside..... or add pps in the colors you want and alter the cover

here are a few links to altered planners

i couldn't find any tutorials directly for altering planners but try googling a tutorial for altering books it should or journals they are basically the same techniques
