Two new from me - need advice on one

These two layouts took me DAYS, but only because I haven't had a huge chunk of time to scrapbook.

The first is my layout for the monochrome challenge. I also used the Project 12 sketch that Sarah told us about back in January for it. I think this is what I'll do with my project 365 photos, just pick a few to highlight my month.

This is a digi layout, and I went through a TON of kits to get the different shades of blue for it. I also recolored a lot of them. Wink

And then this is the paper layout I've been struggling with. It's not how I wanted it to be, but I don't want extra elements to take away from it. I feel like the Hershey kisses are lame though. I'm afraid to color on the white paper strips on the kisses because I don't want to screw them up. But I don't like how they look. I had a cool hat and scarf border sticker I wanted to use, but it clashed with the red of the title so I didn't use it.

Hidden journaling:

Hersheypark Christmas Candylane

We surprised the kids with a trip to Hersheypark's Christmas Candylane. We packed their bags and didn't tell them where we were going. Of course, Andrew can read, but he didn't even notice the signs until we were about 5 miles out from the park. They were THRILLED! It was cold though, so we were bundled up the whole time. The kids went on as many rides as they could. Poor Jack didn't get to leave his stroller at all for a ride. He was such a good sport about it. We enjoyed hot chocolate, and a short break from the cold. We also took the kids to see Santa, and Jack was great about sitting on Santa's lap. He enjoyed the Hershey kisses afterward even more. We stayed until after it got dark, but left when we couldn't feel our toes anymore. We stayed at a hotel nearby, and the kids all had a blast in the hotel pool the next morning. It was a fantastic trip!!!!

And I embossed the background mat on the photo strips, but the flash kinda blows it out here. I tried to get a close up so you can see. I might try a natural light photo of the layout if I get some time today.

LOVE the digi lo. I think you did a great job using the blues. I have never tried a mono page, and you make me want to. I agree, crisp and well done!

As for the other lo. I agree, the kisses aren't doing much for me. This maybe even more lame, but add something on the kisses? Maybe cut some teeny tiny red hearts and add them. I think something with the kisses would help. Feel free to ignore me though! Wink Great job on the hidden journaling! I squinted my eyes and read it on the picture THEN scrolled down and saw that you typed it out! Lol Stupid me!

Great Digi!

I am really liking the LO of the Hershey page. I would probably emphasize the kisses more. To you have any of the foil paper. Silver foiling over the kisses would be cool. I would do a test piece and see what glitter would like on it as well. It just needs to be shinier I think. But then again, I like shiny things.

Gwen ... these are AWESOME (as always)!

I think what is bothering me about the kisses is that they just don't pop enough. Their texture and the texture of the bg are too close. Can you shadow or mat the kisses? either in the same red you used for the titles or just plain old black?

Best of luck!

Love both pages but I agree that the kisses need something. Do you have tiny rhinestones that you can put on the white strip? I would take 3 to 4 tiny rhinestones and add them along the white line so it covers the whole thing however if they are too big it would be too much.

I'm going to lift your design (again) on the Hershey layout! Very nice!! And so is the hidden journaling. I'm a little popdots crazy, so what I would do is cut a couple more Hershey kisses and use pop dots on just a couple and stick them right on top of the ones. So you have a few that are 3-D. That's all...other than that I think it's perfect!!

thanks for all of the ideas! the kisses are already stuck down, so I think I might try what Charys suggested. maybe since it's Christmas, I'll cut them out of red and green. I wish I had good texture but I can always use glitter glue or something on the little ones. what a neat idea!

It's the white part of the kisses that's throwing me off. They look too much like candle wicks right now. They need something... maybe even just writing Hersey on them.

Great pages Gwen! I love the texture behind the photos on the Hershey park. I'll have to remember that for a future LO.

Loving the digi lo's! I agree with the other posts about the kisses needing to pop a bit more and have the white tag paper floating up instead of it looking more matted down. I wonder if you can even manipulate tin foil to look like a flat kiss and glue it over the ones you have down? Or are you able to gently pull up the kisses and reglue the updated kisses in the same spots so you shouldn't notice they were changed? Love the hidden journaling!

Love the monochromatic LO Gwen. HOw cool it is! I remember a lot of the pics you used in it too. You've gotten super advice on the second one as well, so hope you got that worked out. I too love the embossing behind the photos. So neat. TFS and glad you got tiem to work out some LOs. Smile

I like the kisses...I would say do what Charys suggested by popping some up...and maybe test out to see what some foil or glitter would look like on some/all of them (if you popped up all of them, since the others are glued down already). As for the white paper of the you have a fine tip blue pen? If so, and if they are large enough, you could write "hershey's" on them as someone else suggested
