VC challenge #2- White Elephant

It's amazing what you can do with all the old store bought cards, bits of ribbon from a present, leftover wrapping paper, gift bags, netting from fruit bags and other odds and ends that pile up and are just considered junk after they've served their purpose.

Your challenge is to make a card or scrapbook page recycling old bits.
For each scrapbook page you get 1 entry.
For each card you get 2 entries.

I'm switching it up and giving cards more points because with scrapbooking it's easier to add in a ticket from a show, etc and then do whatever else you were going to do. Cards, well, it's been my experience that you have to get a bit more creative as you have such a smaller space to work with. You can use the fronts of old store bought cards as long as you don't just cut off the front, paste it on a card, and call it done.

Enter as many times as you like. Fabulous prize will be awarded.... and keeping with the theme, it will be a white elephant prize, but still VERY nice.

Some of the best cards I've ever made were from bits from the front of store bought cards.

My first entry for this one.

They leftover "stuff" is the tulle on the top. I used that to make a tutu for a friend and had a ton leftover but not enough for another tutu.

I got the idea from Charys to use cereal boxes...so that is what I did for this challenge. Thanks Charys!

My newest favorite of yours' Carrie! Did you cut the letters out of the cereal box? This is so nice! Love your title too!

Awww...thanks Charys. No, the letters are cardstock...the mat around the pic and the strip at the bottom are cereal boxes. Smile

That's really neat. I wouldn't have thought to do something like that. I LOVE the colors you chose for that layout.

Here's my entry. I made this silly card for our 4th anniversary coming up. I want to give DH 4 cards placed throughout the house for him to find on our anniversary, so that's why I'm making so many.

The recycled bits are the calendar page and I used 100% scraps to create this.
You know those mini-calendars at the bottom of a calendar page.....

well, I was looking through last year's calendar, writing important dates in my 2009 calendar and thought "those would be good for scrapbooking"! Actually I think they'd have worked great in my 2008 year-in-review mini-album!!!!!

Carrie, that is my fave page of yours yet! I think each page you do show a lot of love Smile

Charys, that card is adorable. Will you put it in any kind of envelope? If so, how will the wings fit?

I still have a stack of envelopes that my local dollar store gave me, so it will go in one of those. (they are the large greeting card envelopes you get when you buy a storebought card.) Thank you!

VC challenge #2

Now, let me be honest! I tried to tape the label down on my cardstock and it was crooked. When I went to pull it off, it ripped my label and it's the only one I had in the cabinet. So, the label on the card was printed from the computer during my 2nd attempt to assemble the card. If that is cheating, I'll be happy to remove it from the VC.

Here's Austins. He's really concerned the feathers he found in the yard last year won't count as recycled, but I am telling him they will. Right??? LOL

Austin, that is the best kind of recycling. I should take some pictures of the paintings my husband has done on rocks and leaves. Using nature items is one of the coolest ways to do a project. Great job!

I lifted Meg's idea of putting ribbon or tulle through eyelets at the top. This ribbon was from a gift from my baby shower (a year ago!) I have a whole box of ribbons and bows from the shower still. Anyway, this is a bday card for my aunt whose bday is Monday. I am not sure I really like how it turned out, but oh well...here it is.

These are both made from store bought cards.
This one I cut the wording off of. Added the ribbon and white rub-on.

This on I added the ribbon on both sides and the chipboard letters.

Whew! Done mine. The green ribbon was part of gift wrap from some store. Been meaning to use it on a layout or card. Now look, it's part of several cards!

I also went nuts with my Zooballoo Cartridge and corny sayings. ROFL

Two of the cards didn't use the ribbon, I just took pictures of them all together. The aces one is for DH's birthday next week. He's not a card kind of guy, so I decided not to go nuts. He's turning 40, and just wants to ignore it. ay yi yi.

Okay I finally have one! The part with the "even snakes need love" is a card that I added stickers to. Not sure I like it that way, but Im going to leave it. And DH doesnt like that there arent more pics Wink But I already have a few snake pages. The title just poped into my head when I found this pic so I HAD to do a LO Wink

Here is a thank you card that I made with left over wrapping paper.

The front reads: Now that all the presents have been unwrapped:

And the inside says: and the decorations have been put away. It is time to say THANK YOU for all the wonderful gifts.

That title is SO adorable. My daughter is such an animal lover I can actually see using it at some point. Smile

Okay, now that is a seriously cool use of messed up paper. I LOVE it. You guys are making me seriously contemplate making a scraplift folder. Maybe if I make it online in a private file I would have space to do it. (We're currently saving up for a new computer.)

Coolmama- Corny statements are the best. That's a really cute cricut cart and you use it well! What nice ribbon too. Wow, and that came from a gift wrap? FANCY!

This isn't the best card I've done, but the heart is from one of our wedding cards. Karl "helped" me with the crayon stuff.
