I thought "Wow, that's a lot," so I decided to check my scrapbooking folder and almost fainted.

68,829 files in
4025 Folders
Totalling: 68.2 GB

I need help (and another external hard drive!)

How did you end up organizing your stash?

:eek: wow i thought I was an uncontrollable downloader!!! Lol

I did it like you did. Though I don't have folders for designers. Once I find a designer I really like I will. but all of my stuff is freebies so it's mostly from here and there. Here is a screen shot:

Here is my Art folder

Here is the digital scrapbooking folder

in the 2. Kit Snapshots_site links--this is where i put the preview pages that come with the kits. That way I can look in this folder and know what I have.

I like how you did it - I can't believe it only took 1 night though! LOL I like the idea of putting previews in one folder so you can see what you have there.

And yes, I'm a downloader .... in my defense, it's also taken me 3 years to get that much ... I'd say half were free, the other half I bought ... Really hoping DH got me another external for my birthday (Thursday).

Liz-

How do you get your folders to look like that? (So you know what's in them without having to open them up every time???

Linda-

Well the folder shown is the folder open with pictures.

For each folder (when set in the thumbnail view) I have one picture that represents what is in that folder

This is how you do this...

right click on the folder and select properties, down at the bottom

another window will come open, click on the customize tab

now, under Folder Picture, select choose picture. a browser comes up with the folder contents, select the picture you want and click apply, then OK.

and this is what the folder will look like...with your picture

*you must have your view set on thumbnails to be able to view the picture chosen for your folder*

HTH! Smile

Well i tried it.... I have Windows Vista... and it wouldn't change it! The folders look a little different in Vista than it does in XP (it won't let you see the whole image, but 1/3 of it!) - which is not very helpful. It won't let me pick which picture to have as the preview (even though I go through the same motions as you directed).. i've been playing around with it, and it just frustrated me more... oh well..

I posted a thread at digishoptalk asking for you - if I get a reply I'll let you know.

Ok, so the first person said "No can do, sorry"

The second reply was:

"Right click on the folder, go into properties, then custom, choose file - i(t will then show you everything in the file) pick the preview, hit open, apply and then OK - Although I have to say that I do this and sometimes Vista has a mind of it's own and changes it - "

Got another reply, apparently you have to make sure your folder is set to display that way:

Quote:
I do it the same way as in XP - the file called folder.jpg will be the icon.

"Check that the folders are set to display that way. You do this by clicking on the menu Organise, then folder and search options, and on the view tab, tick the box that says display file icon on thumbnails and check that only show icons never thumbnails is unticked.

I think you also have to make sure that the type of file is for pictures and videos. This is in organise, properties and select the customise tab.

If you do that to the top folder you can then apply it to all the subfolder.

The folders won't show flat the way they do in XP. They will always be tilted with the preview looking out of the folder."
