Want to start, please help!

Hello all, my name is Alison, I'm 33weeks and 3days, I'm trying to find the right craft to take up my time for the rest of my pregnancy and later on after my little Tristan is born. I've tried knitted, crocheting, and I have a sewing machine, but I just can't fall in love with it. So I've decided to try scrapbooking because it looks fun, and I don't have to memorize a thousand technical steps. Problem is, I don't know where to start, what I need to by, or how to actually go about doing it. Please help, any advice would be wonderful!

Are you wanting to do regular scrapping or digital? Either way, there's a great sticky at the top of the board with links, suggestions, and tutorials. It's also fun to look at everyone's pages that they post here. That always gives me ideas. Best of luck to you and I hope to see some LOs (lay outs) from you soon!

Ditto to what Carrie said - check out the sticky and find out if you'd like digital or paper. I've done both, but I'm purely digital now. We have some fantastic scrappers of both types on this board, and you'll get a lot of inspiration.

If you're not sure which is right for you, don't go crazy buying all the big tools and stuff until you're sure you like it. Just get a few things, even at garage sales and maybe a scrapbook 'kit' where everything is included, and see what you think. For digital, try a trial version of a program before you buy it, download some free kits (there are tons) and try it out too - that way you can see which you like better.

Yes definitely go to that list and check it out. It's a huge helper of what basics to get to star off etc. Then of course take a look around at the ladies here....they are alot of inspiration.

That should definitely be enough to get you started. Have you purchased anything yet? Welcome to the board!!! I'm a little bit behind you at 32 weeks tomorrow. Congratulations on your little july sparkler!!!

I started with a scrapbook kit and that's how I got my niece going too. All the things you need are right there and it coordinates. So, its a good way to start out. Then if you like it I would try another kit and maybe throw in some sticker embellishments or something else. You will build supplies as you go. I wouldn't buy a lot at first b/c you may not have found your niche! Good luck!!

Oh yeah, don't forget to share with us too! Wink

:wavehello:

I do digital, but I like Kelly's suggestion to start with a page kit. You would just need basic tools then like glue stick, etc.

We would love to see what you come up with!

So, I've decided that I'm going to make cards instead of full scrapbook pages because they're quicker and I've made two now (I've posted both) and am really enjoying the quick fun-ness of it! Smile Thanks for everyone's input and help.

Yep, I second a scrapbook kit, that's what got me started too. You can always make pages that are preplanned that way and then build your stash from there.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with and getting to know you more.

welcome!!!

that's smart to start with cards, then you get a feel for how much you enjoy working with the materials. but careful, it's addicting! Wink

Sorry I didn't see this until just now, but so glad you joined us! Jump right in! It doesn't take much to get started. I'd get a paper cutter, some papers and adhesive and just start playing. Love the card you've done already.
