Watermelon LO

Well, I started out trying to think of some really cool and creative way to use sewing on a page for the challenge in the stickies. My creative juices have just not been flowing lately, and I couldn't come up with anything nearly as interesting as the example. I ended up just stitching around my title. Not exactly creative, but I do LOVE how it turned out, so thank you so much for the challenge, Shannon! It took forever and I was questioning whether I was going to like it enough to make it worth the time, but in the end I was pretty happy with it. Those are stitches running from the white cardstock to the pp, too. They kind of just ended up looking like staples.

Journaling:

When Daddy planted his garden this spring, the two of you decided to grow a watermelon together. You took great care of it, but it never did get very big. You were so proud of it anyway! When you finally cut it open to taste it, you didn't even like it very much! Although buying a watermelon in the store is definitely easier and probably tastier, there was still something very special about growing one all by yourself!

(I know my grammar is not correct in the sentence where it says "probably tastier" and I hope I am not going to be driven insane enough by that to rip the journaling off and redo it. I am trying to be a little bit less of a perfectionist. I mean, no matter how long I take on a LO, it is never going to be perfect. So I am going to really try to just get 'em done and move on, kwim?)

Oh, and how about my cornball title? Lol I am such a DORK! I cracked myself up when I thought of it, and I kept laughing the whole time I was making the LO. Doesn't take much to amuse me, I guess. Wink

Katie- that is STUNNING! The stitching on the letters make them pop so much. I love how you journaled. Cutting it up like that makes you want to lean closer and see what's on it. I think it's the perfect way to remember his first home grown watermelon.

That looks wonderful. I love it, I don't think I would have had the patience to do that for each letter!

Did you hand stitch each letter??? That's awesome! I love the whole LO. IKWYM about the perfectionist coming out - I have a hard time being "finished" with a LO. I think it's okay to have little things like that - I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't said something

Yes! It really took a long time. It probably didn't help that I started it late Sunday night when I was super tired and it was dark. It went a lot faster when I finished them up yesterday during the day when I could function and I could see better! Smile

That makes me feel a little better about it. I'll try to let it go! Lol

The layout is fantastic! Your stitching is gorgeous and the little touches you put throughout the layout are awesome! I would so put this in my scraplift folder if only I knew how to sew.

wow, the stitching looks AWESOME! and you did that all by hand? I don't have that kind of patience at all. this layout is terrific and I LOVE the title!

I tried growing watermelon ... all of my melons ended up with blossom end rot and I had to toss them - there were at least 4-5 of them too. Sad

Something tells me we'll be trying again next year, even though it didn't work out so well. He was just so darn excited that he grew his own watermelon! Smile

So how do you really go about submitting a page? Can anyone clue me in to this? I have submitted two or three in the past, but I never really know if I am doing it right. Do I just attach the picture file? Do I need to send a list of products I used right with it, or would they just ask me for that if they are actually interested? I have no clue what you are really supposed to do!

I want to know the answer to this too. I know with Creating Keepsakes, they have an email address to send them to, but I don't know if they also want details like the products.

I agree though, I think you should submit it!
