What do you think? (OT) - need advice post 19, please!

I've been super busy with photos lately (shot Jack's 1 year portraits TWICE, and have yet to work the second set - he was uber crank the first go around). My best friend's daughter turned 6 today, and I wanted to surprise her with portraits of her little girl (who stayed over for two nights last week). She also has four kids, and they haven't had any portraits done in years. One of our summer goals is for me to photograph all four kids, but we had to reschedule due to sick kids. I'm rambling, I know. Anyhow, I took her out to the field where I took Jordan's pictures, and got a few. My timing was bad, as the sun was still just a tad too high, and she has a "squinty" look in many of the photos. (The clouds had been out and it was perfect, but the sun peeked around just as I got set up).

That being said, I took my favorites, and put them together. I'm thinking of these three as 8x10s - what do you think?

This one is also in the storyboard above

And then I was going to get a 5x7 of both our girls (need to find a cool "Best Friends" digital stamp for this one)

Those are really cute.

The one in the storyboard with her sitting on the bench...is that how the picture was cropped in camera? Or can you move it over so that she isn't exactly in the middle and so that her toes are not cropped off?

Kalee, thank you so much for noticing that! I'm just starting to use clipping masks, and I didn't properly resize. Her foot isn't chopped in camera at all. Smile

here's the new version:

Definitely like that a lot better!

I am a bit picky about making sure all fingers and toes are in the frame...lol But then again I am extremely picky about everything when it comes to photography! Comes from studying under very critical photographers.

I think those turned out great!!! My favorite is Angela sitting on the white bench and I like how she's not photographed in the middle. Just makes the picture different but perfect!

I'm struggling with that big time these days (trying to improve my photography overall). I hate that Angela's fingers are chopped in the one with both girls and her foot is chopped in the bigger one of her.

thanks!

DH thinks I should darken the background a little just in the close up in the story board, to more match the other one. what do you think?

and here's a sneak peak at what I think will be Jack's 1 year portrait ... (still tweaking it - I've only fixed the white balance and then cropped it)

Those are so cute Gwen, and I love the pic of Jack!!! Can you send me some of your cute photo vibes? Because every time I try and get cute monthly pics of Wyatt they come out kinda cheesy

Love the pictures. It is so nice of you to do that. I'm not good with photos so can't critique, just admire Smile

I love the off center one where she is on the bench by herself, even if her foot is cut off it is still a great shot. The story board is looking very good too.

Love the portrait of Jack too, what a cutie.

well, I wasn't really looking for critique, wanted the perspective from other moms.

I got a couple of 4x6 prints to check the colors, and they look good. I can't wait to give her these!!!

They are gorgeous! I am so envious of your portrait skills. I have got to get out and start seeing what mine will do.

thanks girls!

I have a slight problem, can you help? I have a new monitor, and I'm afraid it's too bright. I keep messing with the settings, but to no avail. I got 4x6s printed of the photos to see how the colors turned out, and they look perfect in the storyboard. But in the close up of Angela, the photo is really dull. I don't understand, I used the same picture!!!!!

So, here it is again, does it look dull at all to you? Like does her skin seem pale and her shirt a really pale pink? It's not a bright pink, but in the storyboard the pink is properly represented.

I think the colors look really natural on my screen. It looks like a very well lit photograph. Her skin isn't pale at all and the shirt is a soft pink but not almost white.

All of the pictures are gorgeous! On my monitor she does look somewhat pale and her shirt looks very, very light pink. She is a beautiful little girl, her mom is going to be so happy to have those pics! I love the portrait of Jack, he is adorable!

It looks fine on my monitor, a little light but nothing major. That's the frustrating part about computers. I printed off 2 pages last month that came out looking way different then I wanted them to color wise

I wouldn't say that her face looks pale.... just lighter than the rest of her skin. Her shirt looks like a very light pink to me. I'm sure the mom will love it just the way it is Gwen!

Her skin doesn't look pale, but the shirt is a really light pink on my screen. Gorgeous photos, btw!
