WWYD surgery ????? UPDATE

What would you do? I have my surgery today in 3 hours, bad thing is because they have to put me under I will not be able to nurse Damien. The other bad thing is Damien does NOT take a bottle. I will let him but he will not take it at all. I have also tried a sippy cup but not much luck there he just plays with it. So my plan was to just have dh feed him alot today and try the sippy but...reason for this post now he is sick Sad Poor baby has a cold and he sounds so bad so how am I not going to nurse him?!?! I think I might make it for next week. Then I could drink some coffee right now cause if I go to surgery, I can't eat or drink anything. He just sounds so bad and I think he needs to nurse for comfort today. WWYD?

hmm, that's a tough one, and i'm sure you're not going to like my answer.

Go to the surgery. He'll be fine. He'll figure out that if he wants to eat he has to use the bottle. I know it may be hard on everyone. but get the surgery over with, i wouldn't put that off because next week, it might be something else that might stop you.

HUGS GL whichever you decide to do.

I have to agree with Liz! It will be hard, but you NEED this surgery. If he's hungry he'll figure it out.

What a hard position to be in. :bigarmhug: I would do the surgery, just b/c you really need to. Now if it was something you didn't need to do, then fine, don't. But, you need it. He'll be okay. It's something we moms have a hard time dealing with, but he will be okay. KUP!

I'm sure you're already in surgery if you decided to do that. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and Miles won't nurse anymore. I'm having to pump exclusively. I know Damien is much older than Miles and is more established nursing so I'm sure he'll bounce back just fine. And if he is hungry enough he will take a bottle or a sippy cup. But, I'm not sure you'll be up to nursing immediately after surgery...or even the next day. When I had my surgery I couldn't nurse him for 24 hours because of the anesthesia. The next day I could have nursed him but I felt so terrible I really couldn't. Either way, good luck! I hope your recovery is fast!

I chickened out  Yes Ash you are right it is the anesthesia that makes me unable to nurse for so long. I called the nurse to ask how soon I could nurse and she said 12 hours! The last time I tried a bottle he screamed for 4 hours till I could nurse him. I could just see dh "trying" to take care of him and me unable to move wanting to get him. When I called the nurse she could tell in my voice that I also have a slight cold. I feel fine but am just starting to get it. She said I could not go under with a cold big or small so now I go in on the 3oth. This entire week I am going to get Damien used to a sippy and atleast now I can scrap in the crop this weekend. That gives me time to do a bunch of pages before I might not be able to scrap for awhile. Thanks everyone for caring Smile

Ash, I am so sorry that Miles will not nurse anymore. Just wanted to say great job mommy for still pumping. I would not have the energy and might have switched to formula if that had happened to me.

sorry I didn't get logged on until now. i was keeping you in my prayers this morning. I think you made the right decision. Atleast that gives you enough time to try and get Damien used to the sippy. You will both be more comfortable. YAY for time to scrap too!

Thanks Charys, I think if he was not sick I could have toughed it out with trying the sippy today but he needs to nurse for comfort today. I am a big softy Smile

when I met with the surgeon about my thyroid, she said that I could nurse as soon as 3 hours. I think Dr. Sears website said that too. but I guess it's best that you waited. I just know you've been in pain so long with your neck, was hoping you'd be better soon. so are you doing it next week?

Glad to hear you feel more comfortable about the whole thing. Sounds like you made the right decision for everyone. Please KUP with the surgery and his transition to the cups!
