I just got home not long ago from my appt, man those things take forever! The video conference is good, however they take sooo long!
Anyways, my bp is good and normal, baby girls hb was in the 150's today, belly measuring right on at 36, anddddd, I lost 3 1/2 pounds since last week! :woohoo:. Oh, and upon doing the internal check, I'm still about the same I was Wednesday night.
So I finally got in to see him, and we talked about how I was feeling etc. He said right now, it sounds very much like I'm getting ready to go into active labor, obviously we just can't predict when. He said for being 36 weeks he's not going to do anything to help it along, however he's still a bit concerned as to when and how fast I may go, since Hailey was born at 37 weeks, 2 days. I mentioned the lots of pressure to him and he said he can't say one way or another about that. I also mentioned about parts of my plug starting to come out. He's not too concerned about that either, since obviously alot of people walk around like that for a while, and also it's still thick, no blood or anything.
Now... I asked if I end up back in again with steady contractions before 37 weeks, what would happen, because with Hailey, I went in with the steady contractions and he instantly broke my water due to worries of me going home, then having to go back and possibly delivering on the highway. he said well, if he felt that I was headed into full blown labor, he would keep me and we'd have the baby. Now, if I'm 37+, he would probably just break my water and off we go. He said he would deliver at 36 if absolutely necessary, because in his experience "and he's been delivering babies for years and years and years" they do rather well and there's no need for concerns in that area on his part. He said that next week my nurse practitioner can do a membrane sweep and we can see what happens. She said she wasn't going to be there, and I'd be seeing someone else, so he said well, at 37 weeks I can call up his secretary, explain that we did the video conference and that he said he'd bring me in at 37 weeks to do a sweep, and she'd schedule me in, and i'd go see him next week to get it done.
I don't know if I'm going to do it or not, I need to look it up a bit more. From the little bit I did read, I saw that it's mostly effective if you've already started to dialate a bit and started on the thinning process. Since I'm almost 3cms dilated and 50%, I'm going to assume it would probably work. Scary, I could have baby girl within a week! However, I need to obviously discuss with hubby and look into a bit more. However, the fact that the Dr is concerned that I may go fast, and that while I 'could' go to the hospital here in town, chances are they would try and 'delay' it a bit and just ship me there via ambulance, since they're no longer set up to deliver babies, and that he doesn't want to put anyone in a risky situation. Oh and to scare me further, he was mentioning that they had someone just go in, who delivered their baby, in the car, on the side of the highway earlier in the week . He said the baby was fine, but it's still a more risky situation than doing a sweep and waiting to see what happens. He also said that he's actually booked appts for people here in town to go in to be induced who were on their 3rd or 4th baby who he felt might fall into the 'deliver on the highway' risk factor with a fast labor. He'd rather me go in, have her a bit early rather than later, and possibly in danger on the side of the highway. I can see his point, but wow, depending when I go get it done, I could have her as early as Wednesday
OH and my nurse practitioner said I'm a bit farther along on the progression scale than most people are at 36 weeks... usually it's a tad bit of dilation, and maybe starting to get soft, where as I'm almost 3cms/half thinned. That's something to consider, as well. And with 4 kids, and stairs, and terrible bumpy roads "our town is full of them you can't avoid them for the most part!" that's all a recipe to keep things going more and more in there, and also something to consider with getting a sweep.
Anyone have a sweep done? How far along were you? If it worked first sweep, how much progression did you have before the sweep and how long did you take to go into labor?
