Alice's 6 week went well. She weighs 8lbs, 14oz and is 20.75in long. The dr checked her mouth for thrush and she looks good (I did gentian violet last week b/c she got thrush again). The dr said Alice is quite strong and is on target with development. She got her first vaccines, polio, dtap, rotavirus, and Hib. I was shocked at how well she handled them, she only cried for about 30 seconds after the shots. But ever since she's been cranky, but Tylenol has helped when she gets really upset.
I have a question about what the dr said. I had always read that bf babies, after 6 weeks when the colotstrum is gone, can poop a lot less frequently, like only once a week, and that is normal and not constipation. Alice poops about once every 3-5 days lately and the dr said she should poop daily and I should give her a suppository when she hasn't pooped in a while. I'm more inclined to go with what I've read ( when she poops it is a large amount, she frequently passes gas so I know she isn't blocked up, her tummy isn't hard and she isn't in pain in her tummy). She is also eating well, gained weight, and pees a lot. But I wanted to see if anyone else knows anything more about this topic.
I think I remember the pedi at the hospital saying something about bf babies sometimes going longer periods without pooping. CJ poops a lot (he gets a combo of bm and formula) but Brandon was mostly formula fed and he used to be horribly constipated, but even then we never had to use suppositories...we used to give 1oz prune juice diluted with 1oz water. He used to be in obvious discomfort though, so I would say she's fine as long as she's not showing signs of discomfort.

My pedi said that as long as the poop is soft, like peanut butter, that it is ok to only go once every couple of days.
DD1 pooped once every 5-10 days. DD2 hasn't pooped since Saturday. I was told as long as they pass gas and don't seem in discomfort then it is fine.
Main problems are a lot of poop at one time and the longer she goes, the nastier the gas smells

Isaiah poops at least once a day/every other day but DS1 went much longer periods of time between pooping (a week+ sometimes). As long as it isn't causing them discomfort it's perfectly normal.

I would agree that as long as she isn't in any discomfort it doesn't seem like it would be a problem. But I'm glad to hear what everyone else has to say about it. Both of my kiddos have been BF, but DD pooped after every single feeding. I'm not kidding. Ronan poops once a day, so that didn't seem like enough to me after DD, but I had to remind myself that she was not the norm.
I agree with what everyone else has said. BF babies can go a lot longer between poops. Hailey pooped every feed. Audrey poops once every 48 hours or so...and then she gets a bath cause its explosive!
If you give your baby a suppository too often they can become dependent on it to poop. We see this sometimes with the premature babies, we give them to them while they are in the NICU and for some kids they have a hard time ever going on their own until they are much older. If the baby is not uncomfortable, has a nice soft tummy, and is passing gas, I would wait till close to a week before going the suppository route.
