First, I must say I'm EXHAUSTED! I didn't sleep well last night, so today just added to it. I sure hope I sleep well tonight!
Anyways, we get there and they were waiting for me. Had me change, and also go pee. Hooked me up to the monitors and took my BP. BP wasn't too bad, however, my heartrate was 129 . Upon doing the strip test in my pee, we discovered I was severely dehydrated. I was rather puzzled because for the most part, all i drink is water. I do have juice and occasionally a pop, but for the most part, water. When it's hot, i drink more, as most people do. I'm not sure just how bad the dehydration was because I was the highest the strip tested for, it could have been worse than that for all we know.
So, she watched the monitors for a while. Baby girls HB was good, going from 130-140, and from what I heard, went up with each contraction, which is good. My delivering Dr was off till Monday, but his resident trainee was there, so she dealt with me. I got an IV of 1000cc's of fluids, and the swabby test to see what was going on inside. They said the test would show if I was at risk of going into preterm labour anytime soon. That test came back with great news. I'm not at risk... PHEW!
She also did an internal check, and she said I'm still pretty good and tight and closed. She can get a finger tip in. Also great news. They ordered a vaginal ultrasound to check to see how long my cervix was just to be sure. I'm measuring at 4.8 centimeters, which she said was great. If it would have been less than 3, then it would have been a bit worrysome, I guess that means that it would have been thinning out and I could have been a bit more rough.
She said too, that since I'm just getting over a UTI, plus being dehydrated really irritated my uterus which was causing the contractions, crampyness etc. My pee before we left was all good, so I'm to drink a bit more. Oh, when I said that I was puzzled because I do drink plenty during the day, she said sometimes it just happens. For some people sometimes no matter how much you drink it simply doesn't matter. I guess I'm one of the 'lucky' ones .
Oh, and I got lectured by the resident person. Before I left, she was all "Oh, you've been losing weight all pregnancy, are you eating enough?" I said yeah, I eat, I try and eat 3 meals plus a small snack here and there, however, I'm just not hungry. I eat when I'm hungry. She had the nerve to tell me that I need to eat something small every 3 hours, and that the keytones are showing a bit in my pee and that's because I don't eat enough and I'm losing weight. I said well I've lost weight with my last 2 pregnancies, and they went the same as this one... I just wasn't hungry and ate very little and there was never any problems or issues. Plus the delivering Dr knows all about that, and he said himself, infront of her when we did the video conference, that he don't care about that. Baby is growing well, and it's not a huge fast weight loss, it's a pound here, half a pound there, kwim. If it was a major weight loss, and baby wasn't growing as she should, then yeah, he'd have something to say. So as far as her saying I HAVE to eat, umm, no, that's ok. I can't and won't force myself to eat. My nurse practitioner is happy with things, so that's all that matters to me.
Oh, and 2 good things happened while I was there. 1, they did my GBS swab, so now I probably don't need to go to my appt next week since that was the big reason for my next prenatal, and 2, while we were waiting u/s results, the nurse did my preadmit paper work, so that I won't have to go back in 2 weeks . She said it's possible the Dr may want me to go in and see him, however, since I was JUST there today and did the preadmit, there probably won't be any need and that I'll just see him on the teleconference at each of my appts. That's good for us, because at least hubby won't need to take time off next tuesday, or the Tuesday after that, especially since he just took today off.
Oh and want something to giggle about? They had to use the clamp thing to put in me to open me up when they were checking me out. The skin and whatnot inside kept folding over and going IN it, rather than staying on the outside, so they had to get a condom to put on it to slide it in easier. Well, the mere thought of it at first made me laugh my freakin a$$ off when they weren't around, because NOT having a condom in there in the first place was what LANDED me in this position . And I was tired, sore etc, and it just struck me as funny to put a condom on a clamp thing (i can't even remember what it's called right now). Then, to make things even worse, the nurse treating me comes back and was discussing that she didn't figure we needed strawberry flavoured ones, etc. OMG, that seriously did me in. When they were all done and left my room I lost it and couldn't stop laughing. Even hubby was trying ot to laugh at first. At least he was there though, he had me laughing at a few different things, one of which was the couch. It was one of those you could drop the arms to turn it into a bed. Well we were both laughing, cause he was wiggling it and i said yeah, I can just see it breaking and the arm is on the floor, well we laughed and laughed about that.
I know this was long, and if you read it all, I applaud you, I didn't mean to type so much lol. In the end, I was glad that I went, because I know that being seriously dehydrated while pregnant can and will bring on preterm labour, and I would have been stuck, being sent to the other hospital 2 1/2 hours away and probably be all by myself, and I couldn't handle that I don't think. Oh and we found out that my delivering Dr likes to do the whole 35 week thing when in fact, he's not supposed to and I have to be sent if I'm before 36 weeks. He tries to do it often I guess lol. But, he's an OB, surgeon, etc all in one, sooo, I guess he does kinda go against policy at times depending. But, for now I'm just gonna concentrate on getting to next Wednesday, then get to 36 weeks.
Glad you're back home now and everything is alright.

I think the word you're looking for is "speculum"!
I am so glad it wasn't anything more serious than dehydration. Sounds like baby girl is quite happy in there, lets try to keep it that way for a while longer so you don't have to deliver so far from your family!
I hear you on the giggles, especially about the condom. When I was having transvaginal U/S at the beginning of the pregnancy, the tech asked me if I was allergic to latex, as they use condoms to cover the vaginal probe. She offhandedly remarked "we take a $25,000 probe and cover it with whatever condoms are on sale this week. Walmart had a sale on Trojan last month, we stocked up on those" and for whatever reason that cracked me up completely! I had visions of the poor tech whose job it is to "stock up" on the condoms! What the heck do the walmart people think she's doing with them??
Hang in there girl, you're almost there. Behave yourself and let everyone take care of you!!
Thanks ladies! LMAO@ Roobear, that's too funny. I woulda died if they told me that .
I still have an upset stomach this morning... I feel like the beginning of pregnancy again! but I did manage to eat some last night, had some more to drink, and for the most part I did sleep. The pelvic issues are killing me though
We had to leave the kids at MIL's because there's no way all 4 of them woulda behaved there for 4 hours. When we got there to pick them up, FIL asked my boys if they wanted to stay, then told hubby he'll keep them for a bit to give me a bit of a break. Turns out they're keeping them for at least a week. So, it's just me and the girls and hubby.

I am glad baby girl is happy. Sorry you had to stay for so long! I hope you can keep your hydration up and get some rest!
Glad the baby is ok and you were able to go home. Make sure to stay hydrated.
