Birth control

So has come the time for me to start thinking about birth control (If i take care of it maybe DH won't get the big V and I might get another baby out of him). Any suggestions as to what form I should go with?. I have cousins that got pregnant on both the Mini pill and IUD so I'm a little scared of them. I am still bfing and want to continue to for a while. I am thinking the mini pill is the best decision.

What kind of BC has everyone else done?

Minipill.... I also had a friend get pregnant with an IUD and the idea of being pregnant with a IUD really bothers me. Until we take permanent measures, we are OK with the risks of the pill.

I've used the mini-pill, the Mirena, and the Paragard. You have to be super precise with the mini-pill or it's ineffective and I really didn't trust it. Mirena has one of the lowest failure rates of all birth control methods (0.2% failure rate) and the Paragard (Copper IUD) is slightly higher but still low (0.8%).

If you use the mini-pill correctly it's 0.3% failure rate but the failure rate with typical use is 8%. That's a huge jump. If you miss that window by an hour it is ineffective. I don't trust myself enough but if you use it the right way it's pretty effective.

Of all three I liked Mirena the best and I had mine in for over 2 years. It is reliable and you don't have to worry about taking the pill. The Paragard is ok but I bleed a lot with it (I barely spotted with Mirena) and it has caused me a bit of worry as well.

I'm on the Depo shot, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who still hopes for another baby. Depo can also affect milk supply and has really NASTY hormonal side effects. I NEVER would recommend Depo for long term cause it's just really bad. But I'm horrible at remembering to take the pill (mini or not) and I can't ever see myself with an IUD or Nuvaring or diaphragm. We are HORRIBLE with condoms... so Depo was pretty much my only choice.

That being said.. we are D-O-N-E and DH's big V is a week from tomorrow.

I hope that you can convince your DH to hold off still. Talk to your doc about your choices and look at the pros and cons of each one.

:goodluck:

Here's to the possibility of another baby for you. That was a really rough time in my life emotionally and I hope yours isn't as long or torturous. :comfort:

I'm currently on the mini pill. DH got the big V a few weeks ago, but until the doctor has confirmed that all went according to plan, I'm not going off of it. The pack I just started should be my last- thank goodness. I'm so ready to be done with the pill and not have to worry about it.

I hate condoms, but we're using them until I get AF back, then it will be NFP for us.

Does no sex count as a form of birth control?

On the rare occasion that both of us have the energy, we are using condoms. I vowed never to go back on hormonal BC, and we haven't come to an agreement on when DH will get the big V. He's a chicken. Worried about his man bits. But his dislike for condoms will push the decision I think.

Lol this is our BC right now but DH is starting to whine so I figure I should get actual BC looked after now. I'm just not sure were the energy is going to come from to DTD.
Thanks for the advice ladies. I'm thinking mini-pill for now until we decided we are completely done and DH will get the big V.

I agree with Janelle about the Depo shot!!!! i was on the depo shot for 2 years when i was 19/20 years old. Stopped getting the injections when i got engaged to my first husband. it took me 2 to get a period, another 2 years to regulate and was never the same again. i am 100% convince that it played a part in my lack of pregnancy for 6 years. i also have a friend that JUST found out she was pregnant with the IUD. i didnt realize that is so common!

Other than that, i have no advice, im currently not on BC and we arent using any form of protection. Was on the mini pill and i kept forgetting to take it. DH is well aware of what COULD happen (even though he insists he doesnt want anymore kids LOL)

GOOD LUCK!

We're doing NFP. 2 babies in 13.5 months was NOT an easy thing to go through. It hasn't been easy - but I guess easy has never been promised to us. Smile
