Blood results

so if you remember when they did the blood screening for the GD test they told me my platelets were low. so they wanted to do a redraw a month later to check numbers. that was last week. they called me today and i'm doing ok...

she said the low end of the normal range is 140
my number was 137 after first draw
a month later(last week) my number was 139!

she says i'm still borderline low or low/normal. i asked if it stays as is will all be ok for epi and iv's i need she said yes. they will continue to monitor my levels until D day. they will just be keeping an eye that they don't start to decrease

That is good!

Is there a reason for the low platelets?

I'm glad things are looking better! Is there anything you can do to help increase your platelet count?

I'm glad to hear your levels are going up. Hopefully they will continue to rise and won't be an issue for you anymore.

That is great it is in the normal range now. So, is a low platelet count the same thing as being anemic and having low hemoglobin? I wish I had a medical degree sometimes... Smile

I had the low platelet count with DS and they said my #'s couldn't be below 100 to get an epi. I had to go in every week for a blood draw and when I went into labor it was just right at 100 and they still gave me an epi. This pregnancy I haven't had any issues with it and it varies with each pregnancy but I didn't get low platelets until 31 weeks last time. I know every doctor is different with this issue, but it looks like it is high enough not to worry.

the dr said pregnancy alone can cause platelets to drop. other than the per dr google it can be cause by anything from a recent wound to a blood disorder. after the baby is born i'll probably schedule a physical with my primary care to do full work up on my blood to make sure the platelets are normal and things are good with failing the one hour GD test

no, not the same. anemia is thin blood from low red and white cell counts in the blood. the platelets are the clotting cells in the blood. not that i'm trying to sound smart
