Hi Ladies! I hope you don't mind me coming here to ask a question. I have a friend who has a 10 week old, her first baby. She is exclusively breastfeeding and has recently started spotting, sometimes very heavy. She has never had spotting before, even before pregnancy. She would just start her period. She's not had any changes in the nursing schedule, no solid foods have been introduced, and not had any trouble with breastfeeding. She wasn't expecting a period, or any breakthrough bleeding while bf'ing. Is this normal? Is it possible to start af so soon and while bf'ing?
yup. anything's possible. Breastfeeding is not 100% as birth control alone. Your cycle can return at any time and there's no predicting it. Ovulation comes before your first post-partum cycle, so it is also VERY possible to get pregnant without having a period, too.
Is she on any sort of hormonal birth control, this also could be messing with her system and causing the spotting, especially if she has an IUD in place.
I'm 7w postpartum and I'm on my period. I exclusively BF, cosleep, no pacis, etc... but I just am fertile I guess. I started at 6w PP with my 1st and he was also exclusively everything... My sister got her period back at 13w PP with her first and 6w PP with her second, she also did everything above with both of hers. I guess it is our genetics to bleed despite what the books say about getting a break
I had AF all through nursing with Clara and I'm 8 weeks PP with Markus and have had spotting on and off the last few days (so hoping it stays away). It always messes with my supply which is frustrating. I also got pregnant with Markus when Clara was 9 months old and I was exclusively BF. On average you tend to ovulate 10 months PP if you are BF they say.
