It turns out my caregiver who has been my mom up until now since Thalia was born, has developed "something similar to chicken pocks" I'm trying to get the name of what it actually is but the point is she cannot be near children. Now I'm all worried Thalia may have this... I'm about to put a call in to the pedi I just wish I had the actual name.
Would it be shingles? It's caused by the same virus. You have to have had chicken pox (or gotten the vaccine) at some point in the past in order to get shingles... basically after you have CP the virus lays dormant in the nervous system for the rest of your life... and later in life can re-emerge as shingles. It's more common in adults/older people than children. But, yes, because it is the same virus, if someone who has NOT had CP is exposed, they could get CP (though if you have had CP, I don't believe you can "catch" shingles)... though the risk of getting CP from someone with shingles is a bit less than exposure to actual CP (I think they'd have to usually be in actual contact with the blisters/etc).
ETA: *IF* it is shingles and your dd has been exposed to the virus... there is a 14-21 day incubation period before she could theoretically develop CP. So, there's really no way of knowing if she'll get it yet or not. But as I said... the risk of getting CP from someone with shingles isn't that high compared to the exposure to someone with CP so she may be fine

They actually said it was scabies, and a "family" of cp. it's just as you described, it's something adults get who have already had cp. apparently my mom waited a bit too long to get it checked out. I hope everything works out and turns out ok. She's 71
Scabies? Scabies is... bugs... kind of like lice but on the body, not on the head/in your hair. Not a virus at all... and no relation whatsoever to CP. I'd maybe double check the name of what it was they said she had With shingles, it can be quite painful for the duration, but usually it's not too serious (as some illnesses can be). Whatever it is, I hope she gets over it quickly!

That's what I'm reading which is so weird. Something is Off. I'm going to ask for the discharge papers to see what it is.
It has to be shingles, scabies just doesn't make sense. They gave her acyclovir and told her to fu with a dermatologist ASAP
I do know IF it was scabies, you'd probably have to treat your dd as well as likely yourself and your dh as a precaution. When my dd was young her sitter's dh had scabies and while he had no contact with the kids, their granddaughter lived with them and played with the daycare children... so dd and I both had to treat ourselves to be safe. Fun. NOT! LOL
Yeah, it's shingles
