Evening Primrose

I've heard this is good, the oil and caplets and I was wondering what was everyone's input on this. I would like to try it maybe at 36+ weeks (both oil and caplets) Looking them over online I have no idea as far as mg for the caplets etc.

Ideas?

I plan on trying it after 36 weeks, not sure on the dosage. I only have a minute or I'd try to dig it up but there was a thread about it on the Birthing Naturally board fairly recently. If nobody finds it I'll try when I get a little more time

I'm not sure on that. It is something to check into though. Good luck!

1500mg orally at 35 or 36 weeks and

1500mg orally at 37 weeks and 1500mg vaginally

What's it supposed to do?

Induce labor, soften the cervix, help with giving birth.

I took the capslets with DS last pregnancy and started around 37 weeks. I don't remember what the mg was but I think I took 2 a day orally and had him a week later. I will be doing this again with this pregnancy.

Wait.... I had no idea this also induces labor. Really? I was going to try it to soften things up down there... Hum... Maybe I'll start at 37 weeks. Ideally I would like to give birth at 38 to 39 weeks, definitely no later than 40...

I really don't think it will induce labor unless your body is ready. I think it helps move things along if your body is ready. Makes sense? All I know is it doesn't hurt you or the baby and it does help to soften the cervix which helps, but that's why I didn't start until later and I was already dialated which in turn help me progress.

I am planning on getting the gel caps and do it like this:

Evening Primrose Oil
36 weeks, 2/500mg orally per day. At 38w bump it to 2/500mg orally and 2/500mg vaginally per day. Pop it with a sterile push pin (using rubbing alcohol) and then insert it as far as you can reach.

This is my notes on what the thread on the birthing naturally board said.

I'm just gonna buy the gel-caps and that way I'll hopefully only need to by one bottle.

I haven't used it myself, although I have several friends who have, and my doula recommends it. It's supposed to help ripen the cervix. I may do it this time, but I haven't looked into the dosage yet. I know my doula said to start out taking it orally around 36 weeks, then add in taking it vaginally around 38 weeks or so. So pretty much what everyone else said ;-).
