I would like input on a few things.
1. How much for a spending limit?
2. Would we like to set a date for everyone to open their gifts the same day or just open as you receive the gift?
I figure we need to get the gifts out around the first of August so that the mom's that deliver in early August could have their gift before the baby arrives.
Just give me your opinions and if we have to do a poll later, we will. Also, keep in mind that the post rules apply to the exchanges.
Eligibility for participation in ANY type of exchange (i.e. birth buddy, baby shower, birthday/holiday, etc.) is set at a minimum of 3 months Pregnancy.org membership and a minimum of 300 posts. For newer boards (2 years or younger), 100 posts are to be on the board organizing the exchange.
ALL exchanges are to be organized by a mod/board host.
To find out how many posts you have made under the August 2011 board: click on “Search”, “Advanced Search”, type in your preg.org screen name, click “August 2011”, and “Search Now”.
You can PM me with your first and last name, and address. I will keep up with all the address and assign partners after we are done with the sign ups and polls.

When people PM you their address, maybe they could include whether they know gender, and/or name, or if there is any other special info to note (like, mom-to-be is really into music, or big brother is 2yo, or colors/theme of nursery, or whatever).

Firstly, I think it would be much more easier for you guys if you did a questionnaire, and the first question would be for our names/mailing addresses. That way ALL the info is all together and less likely to possibly get lost in the shuffle kwim. I only say that because I ran/organized both exchanges for my June2010 board and it was so simple to just post the questionnaire, have people fill it out and PM me and all the details are right there. You just would have to pair people up according to where they're able to ship. You could hold signups for a couple weeks, say, maybe from mid July - end July, then we have till end of August to get them shipped due to different people having different financial situations. You could ask a question on the questionnaire something like: If you were paired with someone who's due end of August, are you able and willing to have a gift shipped so they have it in time for babys birth? Then pair people up according, kwim.
Next, on my last 2 birthboards, gift exchanges were a $20 - 25 dollar spending limit, some people do spend more which is fine, as long as people understand they may not receive a gift the same value. That amount does NOT include shipping as we all know shipping costs aren't easy to determine.
As for some suggestions for questions for the questionnaire, if you'd like, here's some
~ What is your name & mailing address?
~ Are you having a boy/girl/surprise?
~ What is the weather like where you live? (hot, cool, chilly, etc)
~ What size clothing do you prefer?
~ Is there anything you need?
~ Are you registered somewhere, if so, where?
~ Is there anything you really don't want someone to send *due to having too much/enough already*
~ Any colours/characters to avoid? - not everyone likes certain colours or characters like Pooh, Elmo etc.
~ Some people prefer organic items, so you should include if you prefer organic clothing/shampoos etc. This makes it easy as you can pair people up who have the same likes.
~ Are you ok with getting shampoos/body wash/lotions? If so, do you prefer scented or non scented.
~ At the end of the questionnaire you should include an "Anything else to share?" so that people can add anything not covered in previous questions.
~ OH Don't forget to ask if they can ship out of country or prefer to ship within their own!
I hope none of this is stepping on anyone's toes. Just thought I'd share what has worked very well for me in organizing exchanges and also in keeping all info neat and in one message so all you have to do is forward that PM to the person who is buying for them .
I agree, more information is helpful when doing these types of exchanges. I've hosted quite a few exchanges on my other birth board. We usually do a survey type thread once sign-ups start where everyone can list things like gender, theme, etc. It's less work for you and once you know who you're buying for you can just look at the thread to find out the necessary information.
I would have people let you know here whether they have a shipping preference though. Some people may not want to ship to a different country.
1. On my other birth board we usually do $20, not including shipping.
2. Normally we just open our gifts when we get them (except for the Christmas exchange) but I think it would be nice if we could all open them at the same time.

I agree with a $20 limit. I'd love to do more, but it's just not possible at the moment. I think it would be really fun if we all opened them on the same day, but that might not be feasible, so either way is good. I think the more info the better, as well.
