Gripe Water?

I'm really curious as to your experience with this if you've ever resorted to using it? Thanks!

I used some the other day, but didn't really see results from it (positive or negative).

DD2 was having what seemed like gas pains. She was randomly screaming all day- when we changed her position, picked her up, laid her down, anything. The only reason I thought it was gas was because sometimes she would scream/grunt and then I'd hear her toot. She also had some diarrhea.

Anyway, I tried bicycling her legs several times, and that didn't seem to help. Decided to try gripe water. Only tried a couple doses. Didn't notice a difference. The next day she seemed to be in less distress, so I'm wondering if it was a 24hr tummy bug.

LC said bicycling, tummy time, and mylicon drops (same concept as the gripe water) were what she would have suggested.

Gripe water worked really well for DS, i didn't have any this time so i've been using gas drops (mylicon drops) and they work well too. Is Thalia having issues?

Yes. We explained what's going on and the pediatrician said it sounds like reflux and told us to give her mylanta before a feed. It's like once the milk gets swallowed her insides make a funny noise like a grumbling and she goes hysterical. Then there's the gas. She squirms so bad to let out air or poop. I'm looking into mylicon too. The gripe water doesn't seem to be doing much.

I was just gettting ready to ask this exact same question!! Biggrin

i have Gripe water and have used it twice now, only when absolutely necessary. It seemed to have helped but have gotten the impression that some people dislike Gripe water because of some ill effects or something?

So my intention is not to steal your thread so i hope you dont mind if i ask... my question is, what is the difference between Gripe water and the other stuff? Is one better than the other?

I used it yesterday and didn't notice a difference. I will say I haven't really felt the need to use it until yesterday. He would only sleep if I was holding him, he could be fast asleep and the minute I put him down his eyes would pop open and he'd start screaming...the gripe water didn't help with that and I didn't really notice any other difference either.

We use the gripe water per the pedi's recommendation for A's colic. Started using it thursday and give her regular doses. Her age says 1tsp dose though the dr told us to do .25tsp at feedings as preventative and make up the difference when she is fussy. At the same time we also started giving her soy formula (per pedi) when she needs the supplement to breast milk. Between the gripe water and soy formula something had helped. Not sure which one or maybe the combination had helped. But im not ready to figure it out. Even the days where she didn't get any formula she is still mostly ok, so I would say the gripe water is doing something.

I do use it. I say I see results about 50% of the time. But, I 100% see results when he has the hiccups. It says on the bottle it is good for that, and it is. I just gas drops at pretty much every feeding though.
