    Question Group B

Question about Group B....have you tested positive in previous pregnancies and negative this one? Is that even possible? My Dr didn't even test because she said "I have a history with it". I tested positive with dd but I'm wondering if I should have her test anyway.

I have tested positive with every pregnancy except my first. Usually once you are GBS+ you stay that way but not ALWAYS. I'm ready to tell the OB tomorrow to just skip the test and label me + as I'm sick of hearing about it!! LOL

I would ask for a test if I were you. It can definitely come and go. I was + with DD, and this time I tested positive for it in my urine at the beginning of the pregnancy (which apparently is even worse) but a lot of people have better luck than me! It can't hurt to do the swab, then you'll know for sure.

I was negative with both of my girls. I asked the OB what the chances were with being positive since I was negative with the girls. She said each pregnancy is different. You could be negative with one and positive with another.

In terms of hospital protocols (may be different with MWs and birth centers), once you test positive, you are always considered positive from a "we're going to do the antibiotics anyway" point of view.

It is a rare but devastating illness - honestly, for me, if I had ever tested positive, I would just go for the antibiotics. Negative tests arent a guarantee either - I know most of my colleagues just get the antibiotics ANYWAY because we have all seen babies with GBS negative moms end up with severe damage or death from GBS.

Personally, im not going that far, but think about what you would do with the information if you did happen to test negative?

Oh, and testing during labor usually isnt feasible, it takes too long to isolate the GBS.

I was positive the first time and also (just found out about 2 seconds ago) this time as well. i think I've heard of mothers getting a negative result on a subsequent pregnancy but i don't know if i trust it. may be safer to just do it anyway and get a definitive answer

I was positive with my 1st and 3rd, negative with my 2nd, and will find out tomorrow about this one. The nurses still wanted me on antibiotics for my 2nd, just because of my previous positive.
