Does anyone have drink while nursing and still nurse your baby?
I am dying for a beer but I don't have enough stored milk to pump and dump.
I actually had a Spanish coffee on sunday, am I being irresponsible?
I have. Not this time around because I forgot all the 'rules' but I know a little bit isn't a big deal, I am not a beer fan myself and going and having a martini probably isn't the best idea right now while he's eating so often I am thinking before our anniversary in November I'll probably buy those milk test kits so I can have a drink or two. I only have 8oz in the freezer so far so not a ton but it's something just in case.

I believe two drinks is the max? Not sure.

But I thought I would chime in anyway!
First congrats! Second, I definitely had a drink or two during the 22.5 months I nursed my daughter. I usually limited it to one and definitely maximized the time between alcohol and nursing - in fact, I personally found the best time to have a glass of wine/beer was when I WAS NURSING - that provided the longest time period until our next nursing session!!
Here is a good link for information...there is also a good thread on this in the Everything Breastfeeding forum - a few pages back...maybe page 3 or 4?
I didn't have any with DD1 but I am trying to not be so anal this time to keep my stress levels down. I am not talking about one a day but every few weeks...
Prudence - I actually have a beer in the hospital after I give birth for that very reason!
I've also heard that having an occasional beer can actually help your supply. I'm not a beer drinker, but I did have a small glass of wine yesterday as an alternative to beating my head against the wall (DD was giving me a run for my money). If I have a drink, I usually have it immediately after nursing so that there's a few hours before I nurse again. That being said, I think you're totally fine to have a beer!
I had one two nights ago. I had half a wine cooler with a huge slice of stuffed pizza. I ate half of the pizza before starting on the wine cooler. I did it right after nursing, too. Evie didn't seem to have any ill effects of it. Didn't sleep any better, didn't sleep any worse. Diapers remained the same. But, I didn't even feel any effects of the alcohol myself. And it tasted nasty (I tried a new flavor).

I agree with the other ladies... one is not going to hurt. I had a nurse once tell me that it will do less harm to just nurse than to introduce formula to their system rather than pumping and dumping and giving a bottle of formula. Like the other ladies have said... an occasionaly drink isn't going to do much harm. With DS and DD1 I would have part of an occasional wine cooler with my DH or a small glass of wine every once in a while and not worry about it. I agree with the other ladies to do it as soon after nursing as possible to minimize the concentration in the breast milk.
