Has anyone done/plan to do hypnobabies? I read Hypnobirthing and found it very interesting and I am thinking of buying the hypnobabies home study course. Even though we live in Southern California, the nearest hypnobabies doula/class is at least an hour and a half away. We just don't have the time (especially with Kelly) to go that far for classes. I really wanted to birth unmedicated with Kelly, but I didn't have a plan/strategy as to how to complete that goal. This time, now that I know what to expect, I want to have a better plan in place to go unmedicated.
I watched the video of Kelly's birth and it brought back so many memories and really made me think about how differently I would like things to go this time. I hated how I felt right after the birth. I remember very little about the following hours because I was given a shot of nubain right after he was born. I remember trying to breastfeed and couldn't even hold my head up or keep my eyes open.
Yes! And I'm a HUGE advocate for Hypnobabies. This will be my 4th Hypnobabies birth I am also a birth doula & plan on going to California once this baby is old enough, so that I can become a HB instructor. I can also honestly say that my labor with my last baby was painfree short of a few minutes twoards the end when I fried my ipod in the birth pool & it threw me off lol And even despite those few moments of "oh no!" ~ it was an amazing birth
I've been thinking of doing the home study course as well. I don't have a sitter for Brandon and Chris works too much to try and do a class. Last time around we only made it through one birthing class and even then I wasn't a fan.

Haven't done hypnobabies myself but I think it sounds like a great program especially with the option of doing it at home. I will definitely agree with Lenora, the hospital birthing classes were completely pointless. I've also heard good things about the Bradley method but you have to have someone locally who teaches it.

I wanted to do hypnobabies last time around, but couldn't afford it. I was planning on being able to afford it this time around, but other bills came up (you DON'T want to skip paying property taxes).
Sadly, It's not going to happen this time, either. I'm content with it, though.
I believe Heather is currently working with the home study course...

I wasn't a huge fan of our birth class that we did with Kelly. The lady was really nice, but basically didn't teach us anything we didn't already know. I knew what I wanted his birth to be like, but like all mom's who have never given birth, you don't *really* know what to expect. Since Kelly's birth I have had time to reflect on what I would do differently and really stand up for myself. My doctor had told me to go to the hospital as soon as my water broke. Well I did and I hadn't even dilated to a fingertip yet, but they couldn't let me go. It sucked to labor so slowly without being left alone and able to relax.
This time, I would rather not know what my cervix is doing. It was really discouraging to labor for 15 hours and only be at a 4. I would rather do that in the comfort of my home, without being checked all the time, able to relax and SLEEP, even if it is interrupted by contractions.
The whole philosophy of hypnobirthing makes a lot of sense to me and goes right along with many of the things I already believe about being pregnant and birthing.
Now, to find the $$$ to buy it...
I'm doing the homestudy course. We have a great local instructor (my doula owns a company that provides hypnobabies courses in addition to doula services, lactation consultants, etc.) but finding childcare for the class was too crazy so I opted for the homestudy instead. I really like it so far. Obviously Chimmy has much more experience with it than I do and can tell you more about it, but I'm enjoying it so far. I used Bradley with DD and it while it works great for some people, it didn't help me with the back labor I experienced, so I wanted to go a different route this time. So far I feel like it's much more in depth than Bradley, which I like, but that's just my opinion. If you're interested, check ebay. You can sometimes find used courses on there for not as much money. Occasionally the official hypnobabies site will even advertise on sale on ebay.
