irritation w/o yeast infection?

What do you do?

My skin is so swollen and irritated down there that it almost feels like a mix between a UTI and a yeast infection, but I don't have either of those!! I'm uncomfortable and not sure what to do about it. Should I just go ahead and treat it like a yeast infection? I've tried gentle cleansing and due to vaginal pressure had to take a bath yesterday.

Any suggestions?

Anyone else going through this?

I have had some irritation down there too. Thought it was a yeast infection but my OB didn't say anything and I haven't had any abnormal discharge. I was thinking about calling today to see if they could call me in some Diflucan.

I would treat it as a yeast infection and see if that helps. If so, great. If not, you know it's something else.

Could be Bacterial Vaginosis, very common in pregnancy. I've gotten it a few times and to me it feels like how you describe. They always give me a flagyl perscription for it.

Personally i wouldn't treat it like a yeast infection without going to (or at least calling) the doctor. I just read an article in my pg magazine about how some of the OTC treatments for YI aren't safe. You can also do more damage if you treat yourself for a YI you don't have. It sounds like you might have BV as well. If that's the case you need to be seen by a doctor and prescribed something. I had it at the beginning of this pg and had only mild irritation.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Honestly, I'm scared to try OC treatments for yeast infections as my m/c 5 years ago was RIGHT after using a product that the OB nurse said was safe. Sad We have no proof if that had anything to do with it, but it makes me all the more cautious.

I will call my nurse (different office) and see what they recommend. Thanks.

I called in and they said they had a cancellation for this afternoon. So now, I will go in. I got lucky that my dad is available to watch my boys. They don't need to be present for a pelvic.

Looks like I'm already at the 2 week mark for appointments. Lol my next one wasn't until the 30th and then from there on out I'd be 2 weeks. I just barely made it 2 weeks from my last appointment. I know they are gonna tease me about not being able to stay away cause the last two scheduled visits had me coming in mid way for a call in appointment for whatever.

I love my doc, though, so it's okay! Biggrin

well, It's kinda weird cause I don't know if its from the increased vaginal pressure lately or what.. but when I do kegels or use the bathroom, it hurts and then I have the irritation for a while after and it dissipates until the next bathroom trip or kegel attempt.

Oh well, just a few more hours and I'll have a better idea as to what's going on.

If it were me, I would get some good refrigerated probiotics and take those and see if it improves.

I already have swelling 'down there' just from the pregnancy, with a kind of pressure feeling, but it's not irritated. Glad you got in today, my midwife doesn't like her patient to do OTC yeast infection treatments without a confirmed YI, I had issues with irritation at the beginning of this pregnancy that never tested as a YI but the OTC stuff helped so who knows. Luckily I haven't had anything since cause it sure isn't comfortable Sad Hope you can get some relief.

If there is no infection present but still the irritation, maybe try some witch hazel pads (Tucks or Preparation H). That can help with the irritation but will do nothing for the pressure/swelling.

Well, doc looked and took a "sample" of the discharge that is apparently on my cervix. A very MILD bacterial infection. She prescribed me Flagyl for 7 days. She normally would have left it alone for a while first cause it's so mildly present, but considering I've been having pressure and increased back pain and BH's, she's put me on treatment so I don't end up in L&D before my next visit.

Glad I went in.
