Kendra 4 1/2 month update

She is 13lb 4 oz, 24" long, very strong, very healthy. Dr approved her to start solids, starting with veggies. so we steamed up some carrots with dinner last night, mushed some up and tried it out. she LOVED them. kept grabbing my hand and pulled it to her to eat and all. So i want to make a valiant effort at making her baby food and my mom got my a baby bullet for christmas. in it is recipes and it says to mix water to thin it out. here's my question to all you experienced mammas: can i use breast milk instead of water? if so, can i still freeze it like normal?

Thoughts?

Yes, you can thin it with breast milk. You can do it one of two ways. Freeze it, and thin it after you thaw it for her to eat, or thin it and freeze after you make it. Keep in mind, once breast milk has been defrosted you should not refreeze it, so if you are thinning the whole batch of food and then freezing it you have to use fresh milk.

I always thinned before every meal, as I found the consistency can change in frozen food. I liked adding BM cause it gave a bit of a familiar flavour to new foods.

Ditto what Meghan says. I made all of Brandon's baby food and I will be making CJ's as well. With Brandon I used water in my purees but this time I will be using BM. I always added liquid to my purees before freezing them but you could do it after as well. Either way, make sure to store them in small portions (like ice cubes) so you don't waste any.

Ditto on what the others said. My dad bought us the baby bullet can't wait to try it Smile I don't have any other helpful advice to add but ya that she loved carrots can't believe our babies r getting so big already.

I am also going to make my own baby food using the baby bullet. At Andrews 4 month appt the doc gave me a brochure on making baby food and it said you should not make carrots at home due to nitrates...has anyone else heard this? Before the appt I had already made him carrots and he loved them.

I don't know about nitrates but I read once that you shouldn't eat baby carrots because they bleach them. Not sure if that's true.
