My ultrasound appointment

Wow, I've missed some news hear on the board! I will try to stop by more often. Wink

I had my growth ultrasound this afternoon. Baby is still a BOY and his estimated weight is 6 pounds 12 ounces. Doctor said that he is in the 88th percentile. Head is down, waaaay down. The ultrasound tech had me take my down below my pubic bone. That explains the pain down there!

Doctor is recommending I be induced at 39 weeks. I didn't like hearing that. He can recommend one, but ultimately it is my decision!!!!

I really can't imagine him being too much over 9 pounds. My second daughter was 9 pounds 3 ounces and although her shoulders got a little stuck, the labor and delivery went amazingly well.

Here is a pic of the boy:

Sounds like a pretty good appointment. I bet you will do just fine delivering a big baby... especially if you've already had one. I would be hesitant to induce at 39 weeks also, unless conditions were highly favorable (like already dilated and mostly effaced).

Great picture! Why do they want to induce you, is it only size? I worry that doctors are doing to many inductions...

Thanks, gals. Erin, yes! That is the only reason. For fear that he will be too big by 40 weeks that I won't be able to deliver him without complications. Head is down, placenta is out of the way, blood pressure is perfect--it is because he is going to be large by an "estimate" on an ultrasound that isn't even accurate!!! I want to do this birth totally natural without ANY meds, etc. An induction would ruin my plans!!!!!!

Amazing picture...I will probably be induced and I'm not looking forward to it. Hopefully you'll go naturally before it comes to that.

Great pic! I definitely would not consent to be induced early because they think he might be big, but that's just my personal opinion. For one thing, you've already had a "big" baby without a problem, and for another, the weight estimations from an ultrasound can be SO far off, that it's really not a reliable indication of how big the baby actually is. I know people who were induced because the baby was supposedly already 9 lbs (or over)... only to give birth a 6 lb baby. My FIL is an OB and he absolutely refuses to give weight estimations based on ultrasounds because they can be SO far off. Good luck! I hope they don't give you any trouble for making the decision that you feel is best, whatever that is!

Thanks, girls! Heather, thanks for the response. I have the same thoughts and feelings as you on this matter. I am not going along with an induction at all. I am going to let this baby come when he is ready.

Honestly I think its a little early to say one way or the other, but I really dont see a point for induction talk at this point. I mean those US can be WAY off.. that is why they are only estimates!

Cute pic. If you've already delivered a bigger baby before then you should have no trouble with this little guy.
