Need Some Advice.

So...this is my last week of work before I take a 2 week holiday and then start my maternity leave. I went to work today and had to leave around 11 becuase the itchiness was UNBAREABLE. I couldn`t stop, to the point some places were bleeding a bit. The problem is with all of my appt. and u/s I've used up all my sick time and only have enough vacation/lieu time for my 2 weeks holidays.
Luckily, I have the greatest Manager in the world and she completely understands what I am going through. Along with our HR head, she figured out that I could start my holiday this week instead of next week and start my mat. leave one week early ( I thought that you couldn't start mat. leave until you are 37 weeks).
The only problem that I have is if I go off one week early, it means I have to definitely go back to work before they are one. I was really hoping to be off for their first b-day.
My Question is do I be selfish and go off early because I can't stand being itchy and miss my babies first birthday or do I stick it out and know that I will be home for their b-days?

I would check how strict they are with when you return to work. My previous work was pretty flexible about when you would return. You don't get paid for any extra weeks but they did let people take them. It was usually as issue for childcare because childcare would start at the begining of the month so if their baby born September 10th, they still wouldn't start work until oct 1... It is something to consider. I've had other friends where their work is super strict.

Are you more comfortable at home or is it just better not to be itching like crazy in public? Based on what you said, I would probably stay at home. Is the itching normal for you or has it just started?

You can actually start mat leave at 32 weeks.

I had to go back early with DD (I am also off early with this one) so I missed her first birthday. I was worried as well but to be honest, it didn't seem like a big deal at the time.

I say take the time now because not only are you carrying 2, you better take good care of yourself now. Being that uncomfortable is not worth the time. It is not like you will miss their birthday...

Technically you can start mat leave at any point in your pregnancy, and your one year is from then. What kind of work do you do? Do you accumulate vacation while you are on mat leave? As a nurse, I will still accumulate a year's worth of vacation during my mat leave, so I could tack some on at the end if I was looking for some extra paid time.

I believe they have to hold your job for up to another year, unpaid. So if you can swing it financially you could just take the extra week or two off at the end with no pay.

I thought about this as well. I also thought I could use a personal day to take the day off with them. I decided I needed to go off, I'm not getting any relief and I'm itchy from head to toe. Not to sure how much longer I can take this.

I think you're making a good choice, it seems like it's more important for you to be off now.

Sorry you're so itchy. I couldn't imagine carrying 2, being that uncomfy AND itching like crazy at the same time. I agree that it sounds like taking the time off now is the best thing you can do. Hope you can find some sot of relief till the babies arrive!
