Probably not safe to use b'feeding as birth control?

So, I have yet to get the Essure procedure and am not currently taking any birth control. I shouldn't risk it with using breastfeeding as a method of birth control, right? I nurse him every 2-3 hours around the clock right now. Obviously I wouldn't know if I was ovulated, but being almost 4 weeks post partum, I suppose that is possible??

Dh is driving me crazy right now.....if you know what I mean Wink

I personally don't trust BFing as a birth control method. I know too many people who have gotten pregnant under those circumstances, even a few weeks after having a baby, before AF showed back up. But everyone is different, and it works for some people.

Even though my period didn't come back until 9 months PP with my other two, I still don't trust BF'ING for birth control. We just use condoms until we can comfortably pick back up with NFP.

Every woman is different. I had my period every month while breastfeeding but also used OPK's after Clara was born to see "when" I would ovulate again. When she was 10 months old I got a positive OPK and a few weeks after that I had a positive HPT. I breastfed Clara until she was 14 months old and 4 months pregnant so you can definately get pg while BF. The average time that a woman will ovulate again after birth while breastfeeding is 9-10 months. I would play safe unless you want another baby soon!

No more babies!!! I was lucky while breastfeeding Moriah (no oops babies then) but I don't want to take the slightest risk this time around. Thanks for the info ladies!

I got pregnant with Isaiah while breastfeeding DS1, never even had af back yet. He was 12 months old though, so while I didn't think it was likely I knew there was a slight chance. It'd probably be good to use some other form of bc if you really don't want another baby Wink I do trust breastfeeding for me as long as I'm exclusively breastfeeding (no solids) with no long breaks. Isaiah goes 5 hours at night so if dh hadn't had a vasectomy I'd probably want to be using some form of backup at the moment.

I'm not taking my chances. I'm On standby to input mirena once my health gets better. I believe AF is coming anyway as I stopped bleeding about two weeks ago and now I'm starting to spot.

BFing is a great form of birth control - if you dont mind having irish twins!

Better safe than sorry unless you want 2 infants.

Lol, that is totally what I was thinking. We aren't taking any chances, so we won't be dtd until I get my Mirena put in.
