Pubic bone

Is anyone elses aching/hurting? Certain ways I sit is sooooooo uncomfortable! And sometimes down right hurts... I'm guessing it's cause of the preterm labor I was in over the weekend? I didn't have this with my other two boys and it relly wasn't noticeable until I got home from the dr today. I guess it could also be from him being so low already?!

This is SPD and there are varying degrees of it. Men have a fully formed pelvis, with woman we have a little ligament that holds the front of our pelvis together (at the pubic bone). This stretches to allow a baby's head to be born. With some women this ligament gets overly loose and it causes pain and discomfort. In really bad cases it overstretches/tears and when it actually rips in half it's called DSP.

It's usually caused by hormones that relax everything in your body. For some women you relax too much causing the pain. It's usually the result of having many pregnancies/large babies or a previous obstetrical trauma that damaged the area. It's also believed that women who get this have a misaligned pelvis.

If you have this, you most likely have SPD...

- pain with getting up from a chair, car, bed, etc.
- pain with putting on socks.
- pain with putting on pants or shorts.
- pain when you lay on your back and spread one leg up and out (or from some peoplel both legs).
- pain when you turn over in bed.
- pain if you push down on your pubic bone.

This is my 6th baby, I developed SPD with my last pregnancy and was in pain the last 6 weeks. It was manageable and was gone as soon as the baby was born. This time it striked around 20 weeks and now I am almost completely immobilized by pain. For me it is constantly hurting, burning, stinging there, no matter what I do. Sometimes at night it is almost "locked up" with pain and I have to wait a few minutes before I can actually get up. My quality of life right now is ZERO because of this and I wouldn't wish it on ANYONE! My OB said mine is the severe form and I may end up hospitlized at the end because I can barely walk now.

You can read more about it here and what you can do to help it...

I have had some pubic pain but mostly when I've overdone it and only when I am walking or sitting in an awkward position. This baby is super low and has been this whole pg so I'm not surprised to have so much pubic discomfort this early.

I have all the symptoms too. And have for a while. I just hobble around and look like an idiot trying to put clothes, socks, and shoes on. LOL! I can't wait for this to be over!!!

yep, self diagnosed my self with spd via dr google when prego with DD. and have the same symptoms again this time. basically everything hurts if i don't have my hips perfectly centered in weight! many times i can even feel a click type pain down there. like a joint popping...it sucks indeed. and if you are in the us, good luck getting the dr's attentions, other than them saying" it's normal" for it's not too recognized in the states. hope it doesn't get too terrible

I have most of those symptoms Sally but I get the pain in my tail bone, not my pubic bone :-? My pubic bone is fine but my tail bone definitely feels like it's going to break in half a lot these days.

I find the good/bad days are directly related to what you are doing. Try to avoid walking and doing too much if you have the severe form especially... it will do you in! I'm taking it easy as much as possible and barely walking except in the house or the odd grocery trip. If I go for a walk with the stroller or do more than 1-2 stores shopping I really pay for it at night.
