So we went to the doctor this morning for my anatomy ultrasound and found out we have a very exhibitionist son. He kept showing his goods to the sonographer. Everything looked good to us during the ultrasound but then again were first time parents.
So we had a doc appt following the ultrasound and when the doctor came in she told us that our son's arms and legs were measurning shorter then they should. She told us it could be anything from "nothing" to dwarfism.
Dwarfism wasn't even something we thought about (neither of us have any family history of it).
So the doctor got us into see a genetic counselor tomorrow and we have to have another ultrasound done of our son and meet with the specialist afterwards. We will have the option of an amniocentisis.
I am so numb.... It's so much to take in, this is our first and never imagined getting this news.
Has anyone else had anything similiar happen? Thanks for letting me vent.. It's just weighting pretty heavily on my mind right now.

No advice here. I hope that it turns out to be nothing and that everything is fine with your baby boy. KUP.

First of all, congrats on your baby boy! I'm so sorry that you have this worry weighing on your mind. I am praying that it turns out to be nothing. Some of my best friends got some news from their first ultrasound that something wasn't as expected with their son (it wasn't dwarfism, but a similar scenario where the doctor said it could be anything from nothing to something serious), and it turned out to be absolutely nothing. My FIL (who is an OB) says that in that type of situation, it usually turns out to be nothing, but they have to let you know. :bighug:

I hope that it is nothing. I'm sure you are happy you get to see someone tomorrow rather than having to wait a couple days! Good Luck with everything!

Oh Nicole :bigarmhug: That is a lot to process. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I hope you and DH are able to get some good info that can ease any worries you may have, whether it turns out to be nothing, or is a form of dwarfism.

Congrats on your little boy, by the way! Gotta love when they leave no doubts as to their gender!

*lurker* from Oct 2011...

With my last DS at my anatomy US at 28 weeks I thought everything looked great well at my OB appt the next week she told me they had to refer me to a specilist because his legs were measuring "short". I had to wait an extremely LONG 3 weeks for the specialist and my US. Anyway when he did my US he told me everything was perfect and sure enough at 41.6 weeks I gave birth to a very healthy baby boy no problems what so ever....

Nicole, congrats on your baby boy. I am sorry you are having to worry about this. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow. The waiting is the hardest part. Try not to let your imagination get the better of you, I don't know about you, but I always starting imagining the worst. Breathe, and take it one step at a time. KUP.

It may just be that in a few days he'll have a growth spurt and his limbs will catch up. But regardless of the results, he'll still be perfect. This is something I've had to think about as I had a hole in my heart as a baby and have two aunts that have spina bifida. I knew whatever issues my baby may be born with wouldn't detract from the fact that it is MY baby and is beautiful no matter what.

Congrats on your baby boy!! Did you get any pics to show off?

Congrats on your baby boy!
I'm sorry they are worried about his arms/legs. I don't really have any advice but I do know from a friend who has a daughter with down syndrome that when your baby is born they are absolutely perfect whether they are like most babies or not. I hope they can get you in quickly to determine if it is truly an issue or nothing at all, the waiting is the hardest part

I had this with my daughter. They told me her arms and legs were short and her belly was big. It turned out to be nothing and now I have a beautiful healthy baby(well toddler now)! I was very scared also! Hang in there and hope its nothing!!

Congrats on your baby boy!
