As most of you know I have GD.. B/c of this I have to see 2 different Dr/ Nurses.. I had my normal month check up with both on Friday. To date I have lost 15 pds. and am plus size My OB didn't didn't say anything about me losing weight so far and my US 2 weeks ago said the babies size etc. is right on target with my EDD. After my OB appt I went to my GD Nurse. She is concerned about my weight loss and wants me to eat more and to gain about a pound and a half a week. Not really sure how I can possibly eat more then I do now I already feel like I am always eating. So should I listen to my GD nurse or not worry b/c my Dr isn't worried?
It's really hard to say. I'm sorry this is so confusing! I would say that as long as the baby is growing/measuring fine, and your numbers/bloodwork are okay with the GD, to go with your OB's opinion and not worry about it. A pound and a half a week seems like a LOT to me, but I'm not a doctor. If you're getting adequate nutrition and the baby is growing normally, I wouldn't panic. That's just my opinion.
My sugar numbers have been with in the range, I can say that I am walking/ exercising a lot more then I did b4 being PG a combo of having to walk to use the bathroom alot more and my DS is an outside kid who loves to run and play so I am always trying to keep up with him. I did have GD with my son and lost a little weight while pg with him, the GD nurse or my OB Dr never said anything to me, but that was almost 3 years ago.
I would call your OB's office. Let the doc know what the GD nurse said and ask if you should follow this or not.

I personally wouldn't worry about it. It seems kind of weird that they'd tell you to gain so much, I always thought they worried about big babies with GD and you wouldn't think they'd advise a big weight gain in that case. As long as you are eating healthy and your blood sugar is good I'd just keep doing what you are doing. I don't know a whole lot about GD but my thoughts on pregnancy weight gain is that if you are eating healthy your body will gain what it needs to gain to grow a healthy baby.

I agree with Mandy. I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as your levels are normal and baby is on target with growth, you should be fine. I would just mention what your specialist said at your next OB appt.

I also have GD, and BOTH my doc and my GD councilor told me they were not worried about my weight loss. My doctor even told me that it shows that I am sticking to my GD diet so he was quite happy with it. And this was after losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks! My baby is also measuring exactly on time, so I think you shouldn't worry too much about it. Ask your OB next time you see them about what the GD nurse said, but don't go out and start gorging to try to gain all that weight (it sounds like alot for a plus sized person to be asked to put on in pregnancy!)
