Silent reflux?

Star might be the best person for this question, but.....
So I have never had a baby with severe reflux, 1 of them had a mild case, but I cant help but wonder of the girls have this. Neither spit up alot, but they often have episodes (couple a day) where they seem to increased silva, they almost sound like they are trying to swallow, but are having a difficult time. They turn red and their lips are puckered and they sound/seem like they are having trouble breathing (although not proven). It scared the crap out of me!!!! Does this sound like silent reflux? We see our Ped Friday and will also bring it up with him.

All babies have reflux to some degree or another.

those episodes DO sound like reflux, but if you can TELL, it isnt "silent".

Silent reflux is a concern in neurologically challenged kids who dont have good airway protection. You dont notice silent reflux until the kiddo ends up with aspiration pneumonia, usually.

If they're not really angry about it and they are gaining weight appropriately, I wouldnt worry about it too much. But bring it up with your pedi to make sure there isnt another concern that s/he has specifically for your girls.

Thanks Star! I had seen it mentioned on here so I had to google..bad I know, but I figured I would ask here as well. I'm not sure what they are doing, but it does resemble 'reflux' symptoms, but not true reflux as they dont spit up, but to me and they get mad and cry when the episode is over (maybe lasting 30 seconds). Anywho I will bring it up at their appt. Thanks again!!

Star, correct me if I Mwrong but I was told that the milk and acid go up and down their esphogus (sp).before it actually comes up. This is why they are in so much pain.

Erin, have you tried keeping their head higher then their tummies at all times to see if it helps?
