I am sitting on the couch last night when a message comes across on my phone. It is the hospital scheduling department letting me know that I need to bring $500 with me when I come in for my c-section on the 14th. I delivered DD1 and DD2 at a different hospital and that place never asked for money up front. I don't have that much lying around. I worried about it all night and wondered what they were going to do or say if I didn't have it.
Well, this morning I got on the phone to get more information. After being transferred around for what felt like a million times I finally talked to someone who was able to give me some details. She told me that it is only a request that you pay some of what they think you might owe (based on your insurance information they have available) but it is not required. I asked if it could just be billed to me later and she said she would make a note so that they wouldn't even bring it up with me at registration on surgery day. WHEW!!!
I think it is interesting that the message never said anything about a "suggestion" for payment. It just said that they would be happy to accept cash, check or credit. Nice, huh?
