Ok, so i've been sick now for over a week. It started out as simple congestion. after a few days i started taking Sudafed oh, last monday or so, which was on my list of OTC meds i can take. it helped a little, or maybe i was just clearing up due to nature running its course. now first, let me say that i only took it occasionally, but not every 4-6 hours as the box suggests. Let me also say that i HATE taking medications non preggo, so im REALLY paranoid now!! ok, so over the last 4-5 days i have gotten frustrated becuase she just wasnt movign around the way she normally did. dont get me wrong, she was moving enough to not panick, but it was little enough to make me notice and worry slightly. a few days ago DH gave me a world of **** cause i wasnt taking my sudafed (i started getting worse again a few days ago) but my gut just told me not to take it. well last night, i started coughing REALLY bad ( i have history of pnuemonia and/or upp respiratory infections). So this morning, al of a sudden, i felt MAJOR movement in my Tummy which was a huge relief! i told DH that i was concerned that maybe the Sudafed had an effect on the babies movement. well when i got to work i researched it and apparently, sudafed changed the "makeup" of the medicine (long story, you can research it too if you want) but the changed stuff can (bear with me, i may get this wrong) hinder the blow of blood from the placenta to the baby (or something like that). THANK GOD Kendra was moving like crazy this morning, or i think i would have panicked and went directly to my doctor without even calling LOL. I will definately mention this on Wednesday when i go in for my check up appt. in the meantime, i am SO glad i trusted my gut and took the medicine sparingly!!
So now i sit here, headache and coughing (coughing that makes me pee 24/7 ) with "ick" in my chest that makes me hurl when i try to cough it up (sorry TMI). Luckily, one of the advantages of being pregnant is whenyou call a doctor at 30 weeks pregnant and sick, they squeeze you in (mine NEVER squeezes me in, until now). so i am leaving work early so that i can get to my dr by 5pm, and hoping that i can still take the wonderful cough syrup with codeine that makes me feel all better LOL.
Anyone else had a problem with Sudafed??
thanks for reading
I've had really bad allergies but I haven't been sick yet, knock-on-wood. That's scary about the Sudafed, I wasn't aware they changed their formula either. I hope the doctor can prescribe you something that will help you feel better.

Plain Sudafed is ok to take and always has been. It is also on my list of ok'd meds and I have taken it several time during this pregnancy. i had to specifically ask my OB because I was SO congested in the begining that I could not breath! I will be interested to hear what your OB has to say.
They changed the over the counter drug makeup. Kids were buying sudafed and snorting it or using it to make methanfedamines. You can still get the original sudafed behind any pharmacy counter. You just have to go to the pharmacy and ask.for it. They make you sign for it so the government can track how many people buy and prevent young kids or drug dealers buying it. I can't take the otc stuff it doesn't work at all for me...hth...15 yrs working pharmacy everyone in my family still calls me if they have questions lol.
Wow, didn't know that about Sudafed! Thankfully ***knock on wood*** I haven't been sick since first trimester. Hope your dr can give you something safe to make you feel better!

Yep, PSEUDOEPHEDRINE (aka "real" sudafed" - the "ask the pharmacist for it" kind) is OK to take.
PHENYLEPHRINE (sudafed PE - available on the shelf in the regular store) is NOT ok to take.
You have to sign for the real stuff. I get the 12 hour pills and take it twice a day when I need it. LOVE the stuff.
Pseudophedrine is ONLY available as a prescription from your doctor in the state of Oregon, each state is different with their laws.

Anywho, dr appt went ok. blood pressure is low, 100/70 ?? he thinks i have sinus's. i think he's wrong. this is exactly how i feel everytime i get upper respiratory infection which will turn to pnuemonia quickly. so, he covered all angles. told me to pick up claritan and gave me a script for antibiotics too, and he gave me a script for Tylenol Codiene (sp?) to help my head. i can only stand the hacking for so long. Hopefully by tomorrow i will start feeling better. [
Laura, I hope you feel better after getting the meds from your Dr.
