I have tried to get on here several times since being home and end up not being able to finish what I started. So, I'll do a short update then post all the birth story later on.
We got home Sunday afternoon. Sunday night was HORRIBLE!!! I was up until 5 am. Breastfeeding started off going well then it started not working at all. We tried using a shield but he kept collapsing it. He wouldn't latch straight on the breast for anything. But, we tried all night. I ended up giving him a bottle of formula around 4am and he slept for about 3 hours so I got a few hours of sleep after that.
Monday night, DH had to go to work. My mom stayed with me. I had a lactation consultant that lives down the road from me come over and try to help us. We actually got him latched without the shield and he did great. The next feeding, when she wasn't there, he wouldn't latch with or without the shield. So, after lots of tears being shed from frustration (me and him both), he got formula. I gave him formula all night and he did great. He has been peeing more and sleeping better. So, I finally was able to sleep a little bit last night.
My MIL is spending the night tonight and helping me out while DH is at work. I have had him on formula all day today and have decided that I'm just going to bottle feed. It's just worth he and I being so frustrated and all the tears. DH and I talked about it and he agrees with me and is very supportive of my decision. I am sad but I know it's for the best for both of us. My milk started coming in today so I've got cabbage leaves on them for relief.
This recovery has been rough to say the least. I go tomorrow and get my staples out which will help out alot with the pulling and tugging. We took Carter to the pedi today and he weighs 7#15oz which is what we were at discharge. So, at least he didn't lose much weight. It's taken me about 4 hours to write this so I'll stop here. Yay if you made it this far.
