What is with my animals today?!?! (OT)

I am not having a good day as far as my animals go.

First of all, as some of you know, my horse is lame. Not a good thing. So the vet came today, and it definitely wasn't good news, although it certainly could have been worse. He has arthritis in his hock (one of the joints on his hind leg). So the vet prescribed a supplement, and said that exercise will help him, so he's definitely still rideable, but I'm pretty bummed. This is obviously going to be an ongoing problem.

So I get home, I have DD down for a nap, and I go to let my dogs outside. We have an electric fence that they've been really good with. But apparently, right at the moment that I chose to let the dogs out, there was a deer standing in my driveway. I live in the middle of a large neighborhood, in a suburban area... this is not exactly normal. So I heard a commotion, including one of my dogs yipping like they got zapped by the fence, and then I heard a car honk. So I take off running as fast as I can (just use your imagination for what that looked like) and I see a deer, followed by my dog, running through the neighborhood. And I'm chasing them. My road, which is normally quiet, suddenly had quite a bit of traffic which was annoying because I needed to cross it to get to my dog. All of these cars decide to stop/slow down to watch the spectacle, but did one person pull over to see if I needed help? Of course not! I eventually caught my dog, and dragged him back home (where I had left DD asleep). I have been having contractions ever since. So. Annoyed.

I don't know what is with my animals today. My dogs are in the garage until DH gets home... I'm not dealing them any more today.

you poor thing! I hate when things go sore with animals.

I couldn't help laughing at the sight though, sorry!

No worries ;-). There was definitely a humorous side to it... at least from a spectator's point of view!

omgoodness! Poor thing! having to run after the dog and no one even bothers to help! that figures. sorry about your horse. Sad

I was having issues with my animals too, this was last week though. My shih-tzu started randomly marking his territory every where when normally he doesn't do that. and my beagle decided to pee on the carpet which is weird for her. I was like what the heck is going on lol

Mine have been weird as well. My boxer peed on the garbage bag I had sitting there to take outside & he ripped open another one that had papers in it, chewed some of the papers & then threw them up yesterday. I had to laugh at you running cause it gave me a flashback from over a month ago. My Chihuahua decided she was going to play a game and take off a few doors down. I went running after her. Just when I would catch up she would lay down & then take off again. I was the crazy pregnant lady running thru the neighborhood lol. So sorry about ur horse, how old is he? You might want to try equine massage therapy & stretching. A few of ours have the same issue & it seems to really help a lot

Cheryl that is too funny about your chihuahua! My horse is only 13... I definitely wasn't expecting him to have arthritis at this point... the first horse I ever had is 33 and he still doesn't have even a touch of it, although he's unusual in that department. I think that if we can get Felix back into a consistent riding schedule that will help a lot. The vet seemed to think that's why it's showing up suddenly now... I've obviously been out of commission and the girl I co-own him with has been away at college, then she's been sick since she came home on summer break, and now she's about to leave for Scotland. So he's basically been on vacation. Once I have this baby and can start riding again, that will hopefully help a lot. We'll just have to see how it goes.

yeah, i will say that the visual of a largely prego woman chasing a dog, who is chasing a deer is quite humorus Wink

so sorry though. i probably would have let the dogs run and tell DH they got away and he has to find them. probably not, but it would have been tempting. hope things calm down including those ctxs! take it easy tonight

It was definitely tempting, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it... especially since it was hours before DH was due to get home. And I didn't mention the icing on the cake... the tags on his collar had broken off this morning (he got them stuck on the crate and wrenched them off) so he had no identification/phone number/etc. Of course that would happen the one day that he busts out of the yard!

Edit: I forgot to mention- the contractions have gone away, but I definitely managed to hurt myself in some way. I don't really know how to describe it... sort of groin pain that extends down my right leg. Walking is really painful. DH had to help me get into the shower because I couldn't lift my right leg over the side of the bathtub. Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow.

I posted about the chase on facebook and one of my friends commented that these kinds of bizarre situations have a way of happening to me. I thought about it and realized that she was right! It must have been quite a sight!

Yikes, your animals put you through the ringer today. Glad the contractions stopped and hopefully tomorrow they won't give you any trouble.

Thanks Jen that's good to know. I haven't shown him since before DD was born. We used to show dressage. For now with the supplement and exercise he should be sound for pleasure riding, which is all we're doing at the moment.
