    Default Some news to share

I have been away form the board for a little bit. I am very busy and so I haven't been able to share with you all my visits. I had my prenatal visit and my first official ultrasound. Baby had a strong heart beat and appears healthy. My official due date is September 19th. I am 37 so I have an appt to meet with a genetic doctor on March 12th. I have never had to do this so I am a little worried. I have read that those tests can be false positives more than they should be. Other than that I am fine sick all day long and today is actually the first day I don't feel to bad, but that scares me a little because I had a miscarriage a few years ago around 12 weeks so I am on pins and needles!

Well it sounds like everything has gone good and I'm sure everything is just fine. As far as the test my dr told me on one that I shouldn't even take it cause it gives a false positive and then I would spend the rest of my pregnancy worried. Just cant remember what test it was

Glad all is well and that you're feeling better. I understand how you feel about worrying about symptoms easing around this time, since I've also lost one in the 13th week. I'm doing the genetic testing this time for the first time, too. I've also heard that false positives happen, but hopefully none of us will get a positive, false or otherwise!

The thing about the blood tests is they give you a statistic "so many out of so many" some are like 1 in 1000 and some are 1 in 25 (my sister had a 1 in 25 result, her son was born without genetic defects), like Cristina said, it would just cause you to worry. I worked at a Genetic OB for a while, (just drawing the blood and office work, so take this as you may) but it seemed like a lot of the patients would get high chance results back on the blood test and then if they elected to have the amnio it would come back perfect. What really scares me is the people that get back what could be a false positive on the blood tests and it effects their decision on whether or not to go through with the pregnancy.

Thank you all for your input. I will go through with it, and just pray for the best. It won't matter either way. Babies are gifts no matter what the outcome.
