Great thread! My house is open concept so I can't get away with sticking things in a room. Usually it looks alright because of this, but my goal is to minimize clutter.

I am spending much more time looking at the stuff people have/decor than the messes! lol

Em, definitely start on the easiest thing and work up. I have a counter in my kitchen that gets to be a disaster (current disaster to be pictured below) and before xmas I cleared it by making many sweeps throughout the day. One sweep might be to throw out known garbage, second sweep to sort mail, and on and on like that.

Bethy, I love, love, love your phone! And also, does Bryce have motrin?? Ryann was throwing a big fit that she couldn't have medicine this evening!

Becky, I am in awe! Of all of it! The organization, all the craft stuff, and also that I know you use it all, lol!

Okay, pics do make things seem less messy! Because this looks worse in person. Before xmas, this counter looked exactly like Em's unused desk. I guess it's an improvement but it IS January 6 and I don't even drink pop...

PS- I really hate the wallpaper!

I haven't posted by before pics yet but I did take them! I'll try to get them up tomorrow. My friend ended up cancelling our clothes sorting party so I have a little more time to get the nursery in place first. Today I spent some time sorting and folding some of the clothes on the floor and literally picking up a box of trash.

There's a lot of random kid clutter in that room, too. I'm kind of conflicted about it. It's little stuff like happy meal toys or little stuff that Adam does like to play with. I think it ends up in there because I just want it out of the way. I feel bad tossing or donating anything that Adam likes, though.

Em, is that a monorail playset I see in your room? Adam just got one for Christmas!

If it is, at all costs, keep it away from Abby at all costs! I encouraged my IL's to get it for Adam because he liked the ones at Disney so much, but it breaks really easily (two of the doors are on our kitchen counter right now) and TALKS and the track takes up a whole room. And it comes off the track easily. It is the most annoying toy and I have no one to blame but myself. At least Adam likes it, LOL.

LOL I don't think DH will let her even breathe on any of his Disney stuff.. I didn't take a picture of the closet in that room, but there are boxes stacked floor to ceiling in there, all full of Disney collectibles. Sigh.

Brandi that looks almost exactly like the wallpaper that was in Lucas's room when we bought this house... now it's painted but I hated that wallpaper so much!

I wish i had seen this because our living room is almost clean now but this morning-and all week-it was horrendous! We had presents everywhere plus when we got home from our trip, we unloaded the car into a big pile and there was just STUFF everywhere. It was terrible.

I need a closet like that for all the craft stuff. Right now I just have a few drawers in the entertainment center but it's not enough for all the fun craft stuff we have and it ends up in a big mess and then we don't do crafts because we can't find the glue sticks.... my house is so small and I need to figure out something since we start homeschool in eight months!

Oh, man! Ryan and I have spent the past week cleaning and organizing, and I have NO before pics...only afters. We totally redid the room we're moving Ollie into, and we unburied the office from the CRAP it got buried under at Thanksgiving. Plus, I've "swept the corners", so things are looking up.

One of the BEST ideas I've heard to cut clutter (because that is a BIG problem in an open floor plan with NO basement!), is to periodically do a Keep/Donate/Toss. Basically, you label three big boxes (or bags or whatever) as Keep, Donate, and Toss, and you tackle one room everyday. The goal is to put 15 things in each container, from every room. Then, you go back and put the Keep stuff away, but you are less 30 other things. I found it to be really effective. I think I did it twice last year, I am doing it again very soon.

Keep the pics coming, girls. I'll try to join in...would my backyard count? That could use some help!

heck ya, the backyard counts!

We've been working on our nasty bedroom (and the rest of the house too) things are so good we actually had my family over for pizza and games last night and I didn't have to say "excuse the mess" when everyone got here!

I'll post pictures probably Monday, we've really taken on a whole new level of organization - I'm loving it! I got some cute pictures of Bryce helping too
