Do you ever think about names?

With DS, I loved the name and he liked it, but it grew on him so we agreed that it was the perfect name. But now it's hard to think of boy names because it seems like DS's name is the only one we could ever agree on!
The other day I mentioned to DH a couple of names that I loved and he promptly dismissed them and mentioned some names that he *kinda liked*... why would my names that I LOVE be dismissed so quickly to make place for names he "kinda liked"?

Do you and your SO/DH ever talk about names? Who gets final say? Do you think it's important to discuss names before there is even a baby to name, or does that kind of thing wait until you're actually pregnant?

what is your list of names, Al?

Both our girls I picked the names for. Greg is pretty agreeable and I even picked the names for our potential new baby and he likes them. I really think that the mom should have the final say. Not sure why but I just do. Smile

I love talking about baby names.

All. The. Time.!!

I've recently had two dreams about having boys and not having names picked out when they were born. And then, either later in the same dream or even another dream, a name is discussed, but not quite finalized. Weird.

When I'm awake, I think more about girls names. I think because I would like a boy so my mind keeps thinking girl (that's what happened last time;)) But mostly I've been thinking about middle names rather than first names. Again, weird.

My fiance and disagree on most names. Especially girl names. He likes the names Sarah, Lindsey, and Laura. And for a boy, the only name he likes is jacob. I like the name jacob but it seems so popular right now. He hates my girl names. My favs are below.

Girls:
Isla
Mira
Leah
Lena
Josephine
Mila
Lilah
Gray (for a middle name)

Boys:
Henry
Thomas
Hollis
Simon
Lucas
Oliver
Gus

We know the names for our next and final child. If it is a boy, his name will be Kevin Michael, and if it is a girl her name will be Kelsey no middle name as of yet. Both of our DD's names have K's. I choose the names, and my DH usually loves them.

Not frequently but every so often we do. SO is more about voicing names he doesn't like, which usually end up being names I'm not a fan of either so it usually works out. I have one girls name that I'm in love with but haven't told SO and probably won't until we're TTC (a little superstitious but I don't want to jinx it ;)).

Final say will probably depend on gender. I'm so set on my girls name that I will give SO the opportunity to come up with a boys name.

We talk about it occasionally. I think chances are pretty good if we end up with a boy we will name him Chester, after my DH's granddad, although there are a couple other names on the boy list. For a girl, the name Jillian has been on my list all three times... I think DH is starting to come around on that one. We'll see.

Every time I hear or see a name that I like i write it down. Then every once in a while I look at it again and take off the names that I don't like anymore!! If we have a boy next time I would like to name him Ian Davis.

Girls names are harder, just cause there are so many great ones but right now my favorite name is Delilah. Not sure on middle name yet.

Yup, we have a girls name left over from Ronin which are using for the next baby if it's a girl (Abigail Jean, I hate the middle name but had to compromise because hubby let me use the middle names I wanted for Ronin). Hubby is dead set on a second girls name being Amber which I am not fond of and I like Ruby, but we can't use it as a middle name with an A first name (initials would be ARS). We have no back up boys names, Ronin's name we agreed on first time didn't even have to go through baby names to choose it, I saw it in a novel I was reading and it was perfect and hubby agreed. We have tossed a few names around since, but nothing works.

We don't really talk names too much. Probably because we're not certain we'll have another. DH does like to come up with boy names every once in a while. They're usually really weird, but he thinks they are SO COOL! lol.

I'm always thinking about names! At camp this week I heard the name Zadia and LOVED IT! I immediately sent DH a text, "Do you like Zadia for a girl?"

AS far as "who gets final say", this time it's DH's turn to "pick" a name. I had final say in both kids names but we did agree on them.

DF and I talk names all the time. We mostly agree on a girl's name, only debating because what I had dreamed as the perfect middle name became his favorite for a first name.

We differ greatly on boy names. Since his father passed away 5 years ago, he's pretty insistent that we use his father's name as the first name. My counter argument is that all of the children we have will carry on the family name, and I'd like to honor my dad in there somewhere. If we used both of our father's names and a middle name, the initials would be -ARF. You can see how hard it'd be to come up with a first name. Especially because I love the name Benjamin.

We're not trying until June of next year though, so we have lots of time to talk names!

we haven't talked about names since my dd was born, but now that dh is all for ttc # 2 it is ON! We have already agreed on a boys name (Averett) not sure on a middle name yet, and if it's another girl, oh man we had the HARDEST time coming up with a name we both agreed on. I had a gazillion names that I loved or liked, he said no to every single name....yet he never came up with a single one, he just didn't like the ones I did  I'm thinking if it's a girl, I want it to also have a "v" somewhere in the name (Savanna, Averett) so they will all have that in common...I really like Olivia or Livvy, dh veto-ed it last time but maybe I can talk him into it.

Back story on Averett, this is dh's mother's maiden name. She died when my dh was 13...I never met her. He came up with this name while i was pg with DD and we both loved it. I am pretty close to his mom's side of the family, not so much his dads (well at least his dad and stepmom) and would love to honor her and her family by using this name.

Ooooh I LOVE talking baby names!

I am itching to start trying for #2 but as of right now the timing isn't right. I know I want at least one more though, so yes, I'm always trying to think of names Smile

I would love to stick to 'L' names..... I love DDs name, not even sure where I got it from I just know I had it from the day I knew I was pregnant.

Lincoln is my top boys name and Ainsley is second. I know it begins with an 'A' but that was my boys name when pregnant with DD.

Top girls name would be Lara.

Dh kinda chose both Owen and Gwendolyn. But I LOVED them both too. He also chose Owen's middle name Octavian and I chose Gwen's middle name Freya. DH and I haven't talked names for a third one mostly because we don't really start discussing them until we're pregnant but I really like Penelope for a girl and Simon for a boy.

A lot of us like the name Simon, I guess its getting more popular. Ash, I also like Penelope, I know DF would never go for it. I like the nickname Penny too. So cute! I've liked it since watching LOST. There's a character named Penny. Haha.

Did you see that Tina Fey named her newest daughter Penelope too? It was Penelope Athena! Athena is very pretty too.

Octavian is fun, how did your DH come up with it for a middle name for Owen? I always think of Cinderella when I hear it. When Cinderella meets the chubby mouse Gus, she says "We'll name you Octavian and call you Gus for short." It references Julius Caesar, the man with many names.

OOOHH I like Penelope Athena!! I also love the nickname Penny, although we call Gwen Gwenny so I'm not sure if that would be confusing for her.

DH and I have always been in favor of conventional but non popular first names and strange middle names. We wanted to give him a middle name of someone who we thought he could read about and associate with. DH has always liked Roman history (he has a B.A in History) and we were both fans of the incredibly smart, clever and ruthless Octavian. Smile

DH and I talk names all the time. We originally wanted all of our children's names to end with "n" but since my grandpa just recently passed away we'd like to honor him. He did so much for us and he was the only grandpa I had. His middle name was Martin so we thought it might sound a little funny if both the first and middle name ended with "n." We decided on Conner Martin since our other little man is Cameron.

For a girl we decided on Emerson Francis, and we will call her Emmy for short. Emerson continues with the "n" tradition and Francis is after my grandma who is like my second mother. She helped raise me when I was little and I love her to death!
