Thread: Hello!

Hello ladies! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Carolyn. I have a wonderfully spunky almost 19 month old daughter Olivia who keeps me super busy. I also teach 1st grade so most of my time is spent with little ones! And I love it!

DH and I recently started talking about TTC. As much as I love being pregnant, we are looking at starting to TTC next summer. We live in a very expensive area and are still trying to save for a down payment on a house. Hopefully we'll have it by the end of next summer. So next summer it is. Seems like so far from now. But I know that is what is best for our family.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys!

As a teacher, would you get more time at home with the baby if you wait to have them next summer?

Hey! We only get paid maternity if we are working and since we don't "work" over the summer (ie: in the classroom) we don't get paid maternity. For example, Olivia was born on Dec 13 and we went on winter break 5 days later so I didn't get paid for those 2 weeks school was out. It sucks. Thankfully, we bought supplemental insurance that covers pregnancy and maternity so I did get some money from that. So ideally, we would love to have a spring baby so I can take the 6 or 8 weeks (depending of if I get the VBAC I want) and then have the summer off and then take the additional 12 weeks of FMLA when school starts again. I want as much time off as I can get with each baby. We did this with Olivia and I went out at Thanksgiving break and didn't come back until the end of May (only 12 days of school left). I loved having that much time off and I want to have that same amount of time with the next one.

Welcome. I know what you mean about the long wait. We are waiting until the beginning of 2014. I seems so far away, ugh. I hope you get everything together for the house quickly. Look forward to chatting with you more.
