    Cool I'm officially thinking!

OK OK, I guess I've been thinking of TTC for awhile now. Thought I'd jump in here to obsess with others in my situation.

I'm Erin. I'm 30 (ooof, that hurts). DD is 20 months and is awesome. DH (also awesome) and I are both in the middle of our PhDs. I would be pregnant again (or at least TTC) right now if it weren't for stinking grad school. Its not that I'm scared of what having another baby will do to derail our degrees. No, its pregnancy. I had awful awful morning sickness with DD until I was around 23 weeks. I was able to function better with a NB! So, we're waiting until I'm done with my comprehensive exams (like the halfway point) and DH is closer to graduating (he's 1.5 years ahead of me in a program that's usually shorter). That puts us at starting TTC no earlier than December of this year. If its looking like DH won't graduate until later in 2013, we might even push it out to early 2013 but we want our kids to be less than 4 years apart so it'll be go time no matter the circumstances by mid-late 2013. In the meantime, I have an IUD firmly in place.

I didn't get pregnant right away with DD. It took about a year of on again off again TTC. TTC was pretty stressful on us the first time so I plan to JLIH (with some mild glances at the calendar) for at least the first 6 months.

I guess I'm just here to obsess with you ladies until I get my IUD pulled

Erin!!!! Hi! I know what you mean about pregnancy being rougher than newborn! I also had bad morning sickness for about 25 weeks with DD. It's the worst!

Keep me strong, ladies!! My board, Oct 10, is popping out wee ones left and right and they're giving me serious baby fever.

I almost suggested to DH last night that we start TTC right now. BAD idea! I so can't be pregnant until at least December. We're in a pickle because he's thinking of graduating sometime next year but there's no guarantee that he will and there's no worse time to have a baby than when trying to defend your dissertation. But I'm struggling with the notion that no time is perfect and we can't plan precisely when we get pregnant (or even graduate for that matter) so why even bother? Argh. Keep me strong!! If I start talking about getting my IUD removed just remind me all about the stress of TTC and the terror of morning sickness in the first trimester.

I'm mostly lurking here now (TTC next month), but I wanted to sympathize. We had DS1 when DH was in grad school (just before finals, too!) and then had DS2 a couple months after he graduated. It was pretty crazy and financially not pretty (I stayed home because we both felt strongly it would be best for the kids).
About the m/s, I've had terrible m/s (hyperemesis if not treated - vomiting 3+ times a day, losing weight, etc) with all three of mine. With DS1 and DS2 the doc I had only put me on the B6 and unisom, which helped but I was still nauseous non-stop and could barely eat. With DS3 I had a new doc and was put on zofran. It was amazing. It increased my fatigue, but I was hungry! I could eat, I didn't lose weight, and I didn't vomit. Did you have anything with DD or did you just have to suffer through it?

I'm so sorry your MS was so bad. I bet I would have been diagnosed with HG if I'd sought a diagnosis for it. I was vomiting multiple times per day, could barely eat anything without feeling terrible, and didn't gain anything until I was about half way through. I seriously considered medication but I'm so extremely stubborn and I was fortunate that my boss (I was a research tech at the time) was very understanding and let me have all the time off I needed. I tried everything natural I could find. I did seabands (what a joke), ginger (gave me a hatred of ginger), peppermint (meh), eating small meals, chewing hard candy, and various pressure points. Nothing was the magic bullet. I just kept telling myself that it was going to end eventually.

Its copper and I big fluffy heart love it. I've never been able to take hormonal BCP and this thing is like a dream come true. I think I'm going to celebrate passing my orals by getting it removed So ... November? If I don't pass then I'll just say screw it all and call it a 31st birthday present. Are you using BC now?

oh my. your m/s sounds a lot like mine (unmedicated). I suffered through it twice (tried all the things you mentioned) and can't imagine doing so again. Not after feeling the difference zofran makes. I hope you find something that works next time.

I admire people who have children and go for graduate degrees. I am always thinking I should get my Masters, but I have no idea when I would squeeze that in. Sorry about the morning sickness, I caught a stomach bug when I was pregnant with my second and it gave me a whole new level of sympathy.
