January Chat Thread

Hi ladies! Wow... I can't believe it's January already. The end of December just flew by! Since I teach, I've been off the last two weeks. It was a whirlwind break. The first week, a stomach bug hit our house... Blech. Everyone got it except me (thank goodness...mommies don't have time to get sick at Christmas!). Last week DH was off so we spent a lot of family time. New Year's Day was Cecelia's birthday. My big girl is five (sniff, sniff).

How were everyone's holidays?

AWWW happy birthday to Cecelia! That Flu seems to be going around EVERYWHERE! We haven't got it......YET.

Holidays were stressful, I'm glad they're over! I think I've gained at least 10 pounds over the last month and a half (stress over my job + depressed over not being able to TTC when we are supposed to) so I've got to get my butt moving! I still fit into my size 8 pants (took me 3 years to get to this size!) but they are UBER tight lol. I need to slim my booty down again! I woke up early this am to do the 30 Day Shred (hoping to to do that at least 3 days a week), still teaching Zumba 3 days a week, and hoping to start running on my treadmill the nights I don't have Zumba (after DD is in bed). I've also purged all the junk food out of my house so I'm not tempted lol. I can DO this!

Well I got that stomach bug! It hit me the day after Christmas and was horrible. DH had to rush me to the ER that night bc I was so sick and dehydrated. I couldn't stop throwing up and my hands locked up and I started losing my hearing. It was horrible. Thankfully nobody else got it though.

Today is my first day back at work at a job I'm really not happy in. I'm a nanny and the family I am with is just not a great fit. The little boy is adopted and is very sweet, but I just don have a connection with him. The dad "works" from home. He doesn't have a job though so he is just around all the time. I bring my son with me, which is great, but we are pretty much stuck here all the time and I'm just not happy here. I wish I could find something else that I enjoyed.

Ok, that's my complaining for the day. Otherwise our holiday was nice. Just went by too too fast!!

DH and I have been reminiscing a lot lately about when our son was little and how we can't wait to have another one. Makes me happy to think about that as our future...

Please don't let my family get the flu!!! Things are crazy enough without that too!

DS is driving us crazy, DD is crazy teething and whiny plus not sleeping well. shoot me now!!! I really do want another child, but man, not today!!! ugh!

Amy - happy birthday to your 5 year old! Smile
Lesli - how do you find the motivation to work out? I need to loose weight, but I'm so not motivated!

Caitlin - what about another nanny position with a family that fits better?

honestly I haven't had ANY motivation for a few months, but I teach Zumba, so I HAVE to be there Wink even though I don't WANT to. Right now my motivation is staying in these size 8 pants I worked so hard to get into! I don't want to go back up to my size 10, 12, or 14 until I'm pregnant Smile

Amy-Happy Birthday to your five year old!

Caitlin-That is one scary sounding flu. Yuck. Glad you are feeling better. Hope the job gets easier. Or you find something else. I kind of understand. I love everyone I work with, but the owner is just awkward and I hate when I'm stuck up there and its just me and him.

Crazy story...So I've been studying for my exams and I'm a member of an architecture study forum. I saw someone on the arch forum that had the same name as someone I had seen scrolling thru preg.org and I asked her and sure enough its her. Such a small world. How funny that we are studying the same test (since there are 7 total). Our test dates are only 1 day apart.

The greatest news? I looked DH straight in the eye the other day and said "I want kids really bad." And he said we could start tomorrow or I can name the date. So I've been saving, and I'm hoping to make it thru tax season without going broke (self-employed last year). I decided that we should start in June officially, I think I will feel secure financially by then. And we will be "really" trying, not just stop preventing. Yippee!!!

This stomach bug is everywhere! Yuck. Not that there's ever a Good time of year for it, but this is really horrible!

I starting charting this cycle to pinpoint when I ovulate, and DF is on board this time around! He asked more about it, so he's started participating. I pretty much wake up to him sticking the thermometer in my mouth, and since I usually sleep another 1/2 hour after he leaves, he texts me the reading so I can put it in FF. What I guy.. like I didn't have enough reasons to marry him!

I also just learned that one of my bridesmaids is pregnant, due about 3 weeks before our wedding, both she and and husband are in the wedding party! I'm super excited for her, but nervous too! My MOH will likely be pregnant by then too, she's no longer preventing, and will "really try" in the next couple of months.

Did everyone have a nice holiday? Get anything good, or interesting under the tree?

Elizabeth - Sounds like your husband made quite the turn around, good news! Maybe he sees how much it means to you to start now vs. later?

so I *might* be running a 10K in March....I keep going back and forth, because if I sign up it will get my butt in gear to start training (I ran a 5k in October, my first race, but I haven't been running AT ALL since it got so cold here) but then I think, what if something changes and we decide to start TTC? I know I can run it while TTC, but not sure how my body will react if/when I get pregnant, if I'll be able to run

HMMM

Do it! Do it! If you get pregnant and decide you can't run it you can always give your spot to someone else and if not, then the money usually still goes to a good cause. Plus you will train in the meantime. Now I want to run. Not a 10k though. I will stick with the 5k for now Wink

I've been going to Zumba once a week, but I think I need to add a day of exercise to my week. How many classes do you teach again?

thanks for the encouragement Smile my brother and his wife are doing the 10K and they are NOT runners at all lol they are going to start training and I thought it would be fun to do the race with them Smile

I teach 3 times a week, and I've been trying to add 2-3 more days of exercise in....on those other days it's only 20-30 minutes. This morning I actually woke up early to do the 30 day Shred (it kicks my BUTT and it's only 20 minutes)

Ok Lesli, compared to you I'm officially LAZY.

Speaking of lazy, I'm on here because I just can't stand another minute of architecture. I've been working lots of overtime to meet this crazy deadline and my test is on Saturday, I live and breathe my career right now. Blek. To make matters worse, the deadline I'm working on decides whether or not we all get to keep our jobs this year. My boss said to me this evening "your job depends on this drawing, treat this drawing as if were the only document that was going to get you into grad school." Geez no pressure boss man.

My house is a mess, my christmas tree is still up, and all my presents are still in their gift bags. Yep, its this crazy.

On a brighter note...I get to see my good friend this weekend since my test is in her part of town. Can't wait. And we are going to another friend's concert that night. So hopefully my fun weekend will make up for the crapiest past two weeks.

It's been quiet around here, I'm sure for similar reasons. Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the new year.

P.S. Anyone know what that little symbol below the Reply window is? It has a check box.

No clue what that little box is! I didn't notice it until you mentioned it.

eliann - Did you have a nice visit with your friend? It's so nice to catch up with people after the hectic holiday season.

My best friend, also MOH in my wedding, texted me this morning to tell me that she got a BFP! I'm super excited for her, but a little nervous, her EDD is only 3 weeks after my wedding. Her DD is almost 2, and she went two weeks over with her, so I'm kind of crossing my fingers that this pregnancy will be the same for her. That makes 2 out of my party of 5! The best part of this is that if we start TTC when we hope to in June, my BFF and I will have babies pretty close in age Biggrin

Jessica-Yes, my visit with my friend was fun. She has the cutest 20 month old that I got to hang out with too. We got to do a ladies lunch. It was fun, I think she really enjoyed it since she doesn't get out much with the little one. She has another one on the way so I think she will take all the adult time she can get. She was my bridesmaid and was also pregnant during my wedding (but just a few weeks).

Wow 2 out of 5! Bridesmaids maternity dresses are hard to find. I let my girls wear whatever they wanted, that way they could actually "wear it again." Haha.

That would be awesome to have friends with babies close in age. All my bestest friends live outside the city and already have kiddos so sadly I have the feeling they won't be besties like we are. Plus I just see myself having all boys. And all my girl friends have girls.

So hopefully you and I will be sharing a birth board if you are TTC in June. Can't wait for June. Sorry I haven't been on. Things have been crazy. Honeymoon in Thailand starts this Saturday. I'm nervous and excited.

Elizabeth - Sounds like a nice outing Smile She probably really appreciated the adult conversation! I have a bunch of friends from different groups who had all of their first children in one big wave, most of them are around the 20 month mark, just like your friend. I was so jealous finding out that they were pregnant, but I'll be happy to be pregnant along with them for their seconds!

I think I'm going to have the girls pick their own dresses for the same reason as you. Of the 5, they all have completely different body types. I think that only thing I'll ask is that they have them hemmed to the same length.

You're right! Looks like we picked the same TTC start date! My cycle is pretty much spot on 27-29 days, so if it keeps following the same pattern, I should O around the second week of June. I just ordered a bunch of OPKs to be even more sure, which is a bonus since I've become a POAS-aholic since I stopped taking BCP last year.

Have fun on your honeymoon! How long are you going for? An acquaintance from high school has been posting pictures from his adventures in Thailand for the last couple of weeks, looks like a beautiful country! The pictures from Bangkok have been my favorite so far, looks like there's so much to do, and SO MUCH good food! I looove Thai food, definitely a guilty pleasure when I want to treat myself to lunch at work! Smile

So what colors are you doing? Or are you letting them choose color too? Mine wore grey, but I told them they didn't have to all be grey and they could choose any pattern or length. When is your wedding again?

I should O around June 6th. My cycle is not always spot on though. Most of the time its exactly 28-29 days, but I have the occasional 31 day cycle where I always swear I'm pregnant and end up let down. I blame this 31 day cycle on my 30's. Haha. Every new symptom I get lately I blame on the 30's. The other day I had my yearly pap and breast exam. And since that day, my boobs have been seriously sore. That's never happened. So I thought at first, maybe I'm pregnant? I POAS and of course I'm not. So the 30's get blamed once again. In all honestly, I think I'm just more in tune with what my body is doing.

We are going to Thailand for 13 days I think? I get confused with the time change and all the flights. We are in Bangkok for 4 days, Cambodia for 3 days and Phuket for 4 days. There is a lot of airport time in between those. Seems like a long time, but I know it will be rushed, plus with the 20 hour flight and time change, I'm sure we will be exhausted. Going to try to enjoy it nevertheless.

Thought I'd jump in here, if you ladies don't mind. Smile

Thailand sounds like SO MUCH FUN!! Of course, you'll enjoy it! You should take lots of pictures and share!

I feel so out of the loop cause I'm so unaware of when I O. Lol I hardly even keep track of AF. I know when she's about to come cause I always get very unique cramping on that day. I know she's been coming around the end of the month. That's about it. Blum 3 I got pregnant the first month TTC the last time, then unfortunately m/c the first, then I got pregnant again with my daughter immediately the following month. I didn't even have an accurate LMP date cause it was a m/c, so the doctors all had to go off of an early u/s. I tried to track a bit, but I didn't get much of a chance.

Where are you ladies tracking? I know there's a program online that I tried using briefly, but like I said, didn't have much time to use it. Maybe I'll start using it since I don't have much else to do while waiting to conceive. Wink

Eliann: My daughter has a few little friends close to her age, but I met most of their mommies while I was pregnant and after I had her. So you'll probably make some new friends with babies your baby's age too. Smile It's fun to have pregnancy friends, for sure!

Elizabeth - We're going to do black bridesmaid dresses, but go funkier with the accessories. Our wedding colors are green, black and white, and I'm just been going back and forth with the invitation company to figure out which parts will be which color. Our wedding is September 1st, can't wait!

That's a lot of traveling! Have a great time, hopefully you've got a few days to recuperate when you get back home??

Cindyanns - I use fertility friend, and just the free version. I find it easy enough to use, and they have a mobile friendly site, which makes it easy to use on my cell phone! It's so neat to track your cycle and actually see what your body does!

Elizabeth - can't wait to see photos from your Honeymoon!

Cindy - I also use Fertility Friend when I'm tracking. right now I'm using it just to know when AF is coming since Olivia still isn't STTN and I can't be consistent with tracking temps.

Jessica - Can't wait to see wedding pics, anything you are willing to share ahead of time?

not much news here, was sick with a 24 hour bug yesterday so stayed home but sent the kids to daycare, thank goodness! It's one wonderful perk of working outside of the home!

I have the fertility friend app that I downloaded when I joined this forum because I saw so many people use it. But I have never used it. I have an app called "WomanLog." It just tracks AF mainly and forecasts fertility for you. You can add temps, CM, mood and weight, but I haven't really used those. It doesn't "chart" it for you on a graph like FF...but I'm not planning to chart (at least for awhile).

Mel sorry you got sick, I'm glad you had the daycare option though. A girl I work with just came back from maternity leave...we've been kind of slow so she's been getting off work early. She leaves her daughter in daycare though so she can study.

Sure! We're doing black white and green with a bit of damask print, kind of like this:

Here's the dress I bought:

We're not super traditional people, but I don't want him to see my dress. We're going to be doing our photos before the ceremony anyways, but I still like the element of surprise. The ceremony is going to be in a beautiful church in Little Italy here in Ottawa, and the reception is going to be at a local golf course. We just want to have a lot of fun, with good food, good music, and we hope our guest have an awesome time too.

For those of you who are married, did you make anything yourselves? I want to take on some DIY projects, but I don't know how much is too much to take on. I'm generally pretty crafty anyways, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

That dress is GORGEOUS, Jessica! The lady that did our rentals had a table set up for another bride in those colors when I went to review my table and I absolutely loved it. It looks so crisp and classic. I can't wait to see your wedding pictures! I bet you're so excited.

Do it yourself... Hrm.. Well, I made my bridesmaids jewelry and hair crystals (I gave it to them as a part of their gift), my tiara, and my flower girl's tiara. Here's a couple pictures of those:

Oh, and my friend recently got married! She decorated the thingy you get married under herself (I can't for the life of me remember what it's called :p) and our hair clips. Her grandma made our jewelry:

They actually threw this together the night before:

She just glued the clip to the flower... It looked great!

I'm not very crafty, so the only DIY that I managed was to make the birdseed bags and tied ribbon around the bubbles (we had both... and it worked out funny because the guests took the bubbles and blew them at the reception, and saved the birdseed for when we left... Talk about MESSY!).
I was recently in a friends' wedding where we made the bouquets and boutiners (sp?). She's very crafty, but I was amazed how easy it was.
