June Chat Thread

Huh... It's June. Kinda snuck up on me!

Sorry I've been kind of MIA. This time of year is crazy for me. I'm a bit of a procrastinator, so I always have about 8 million things to do in order to wrap up the school year.

Let's see... Date day turned out fine. We went to lunch at one of my favorite places in Salem then drove around looking at potential neighborhoods. We want to move into town before Cecelia starts kindergarten, which is rapidly approaching! We found a couple areas we really like. Now the trick is to get everything else to fall into place! I just need to trust that everything will happen as it's supposed to.

Cecelia got home from her trip on Sunday. She got a little homesick toward the end, but had a great time... Swimming, park, horseback riding, riding on a parade float, carnival. Going to the grandparents is a good deal!

Erica~ Glad your camping trip went well. Hiding out in a tent, reading a book sounds like heaven!

Wendy~ So sorry work sucks right now. Hope it gets better for you soon.

Amy ~ How many days are you down to until summer vacation?

MrsRiggert ~ Has summer vacation started for you?

Wendy ~ So sorry to hear that work is rough right now.

AFM ~ Planted my herb garden on my days off this week. My strawberries have started and I've got the wood ready for my raised beds. Now I just need to build and fill.

We have eight more kid days, then two days of inservice. Hopefully I'll get everything I need to done so I don't have to come in my first day of summer vacation!

It should calm down sometime after August/ September depending on my next round of court work. I am having forced holidays in a couple of weeks and had planned to go in for some meetings scheduled that are out of my control, butwas told not to, but I feel bad someone else has to cover my work. Once this carziness is over I will have another round of court work to start which could get very nasty as well.

Erica-Have you seen the raised beds from Sams Club you can get? They are rather inexpensive, and a type of plastic, so they dont need stained or fade. I bought two of them, a total of 4 beds and love it. My lettuce, onions, and carrots are coming up wonderfully.

Katie - Those raised beds look fantastic and easy to put together! Unfortunately, the closest Sam's Club is probably 4 (or more) hours away. But that's exactly what SO and I are building. Now's a time I wish we didn't live in the middle of nowhere so I could save us some manual labour. I'm going to keep my eye out for next year though just in case these boxes don't work out. Thanks for the tip!

Race day? Are you running?

Amy - Yay for being in single digits until summer vacation! Any plans?

Wendy - I hope you're able to relax during your vacation. How many cases do you have on the go at any given time?

Erica-How fun you are getting your gardens in, my Dad came down and put a small one in for me on Mother's day and we just dug out a three sink laundry tub we are going to use for herbs and strawberries.

During this week of holidays my Mum has some surgery so we will be heading up to help her out on hubby's days off, the next two weeks in September is the week before DS's birthday party and the week after so not much relaxing the week before, but we are taking DS to the zoo for his birthday in the second week. At the moment I have between 30 and 40 individuals that make up my case load, all with varying degrees of work, some are minimal contact, others I see more often and therefore generate a lot more work and of course the complex ones which generate even nmore work. I also have quite a few cases out of town, anywhere up to a 2 hour drive away.

Amy- 2 more weeks yay!

Katie- I just left Chicago 9 months ago. The marathon always came right by my apartment. I lived off of Belmont and Broadway. Good times. I miss it there! Where do you live?

Wendy-I hope work gets better for you soon! It sucks being overly stressed with work. I've worked the past 9 days with no days off. I'm exhausted.

Erica-Yay for gardening. I wish I had a green thumb like my dad. Every plant I get tends to die within the week. Boo!

AFM...Not much going on. We got together with friends late last night and grilled out. My new job is good. I'm a newbie, so they are working me a lot. I had to work all weekend there and 10 hours/day during the week. I shouldn't complain, I am grateful for the job. Just exhausted. I'm supposed to take test #3 of 7 for my license at the end of the month, but I haven't studied, so I will have to pay to reschedule. Yuck. Oh yeah, I decided to make my brother my "maid of honor" we are calling him the "Brother of Honor" and he is so excited and taking his role seriously...he even wants to plan my bachelorette party. He's so funny!

Sorry I should have been more clear, Nascar was what we went to see. I couldnt run that-I did do a 5k this weekend but I walked it. I despise running. I live just under 2 hrs away from downtown chicago.

Back to work today. Manager is gone, PT help on maternity leave and bills just went out...I dont foresee a good day for me. But we'll see. Hope everyone has a good day

I feel awkward just jumping in, but we finally started planning my wedding today. We booked a venue, so it's for sure going to be on October 8th now. It doesn't really feel real yet.

We also bought my dress today:

I'm super excited.... and it's really helping me stay focused on my money saving goals. Smile

Nikki - your dress is beautiful! If SO and I ever tie the knot, that's the style of dress that I would be aiming for. I prefer knee/short length over long, ballroom gowns for myself.

Katie - I hear you on the running. I prefer a nice hike over running any day.

Wendy - how neat on using a laundry tub! I always like hearing unique gardening ideas. Once we own a house I would like to make something like that for a garden (a couple of friends of mine used an old clawfoot bathtub and it looks beautiful to me).

Elizabeth - I used to be that way with plants (die as soon as I touched them) but I kept at it and now I'm doing alright. Last year was the first summer I had gardens over boxes but I considered it a trial year as I went to Europe at harvest time and SO let the deer have everything. This year, I'm hoping to preserve as much as I can (we made it one full year on the jams I did last year before having to buy some).

AFM - garden boxes are almost done! I need a bit more soil for the one box but it's just seeds going in so I've got some time. I feel like I'm slow this year but we had such a late end of frost that I'm not in a rush. My neighbours planted about 3 weeks ago and lost most of their tomato plants already so I'm happy I'm taking my time.

Nikki-Cute Dress! I always imagined myself getting married in a Tea length dress, because they are so cute and I love to dance. However, I ended up with a flowy chiffon floor length dress that I just fell in love with it. I am worried about how its going to restrict my dancing though.

Erica-How did the garden boxes turn out? Can we see pics?

Amy-1 week left right? I bet you're excited! Do you stay home with your kids during the summer or do they still go to daycare? My friend who is a teacher keeps her 3 yr old in daycare during summer because he would lose his spot. I think that's kind of a bummer. Hope you get to spend some good quality time with your kiddos this summer break.

AFM-I had a rough week. I worked 15 days straight with no days off. I locked myself out of my office this week and it took me hours to get back in. And my car is having lots of problems. I'm thinking its on its last life. I am taking it to the mechanic tomorrow. Hoping the repairs are under 1k. FI and I were talking last night and decided that before we TTC we need to get me a new car. He doesn't want me stranded anywhere with a newborn. I mean we could always use his car, he works from home and he only drives on weekends. I think he just wants me to get a new car.

This week we are going to try to make it to the last "Jazz under the Stars" series in downtown Dallas. It's nice, bc you just bring a picnic blanket, food and wine and enjoy the music outdoors!

Just a quick check in... Yup, this is my last week! Two more days with kids, then two days of grades, paperwork, and cleaning, then DONE! I am ready, well, mentally and physically. I still have a lot to do.

Yay I am back, my computer had a virus but it's all fixed now. I'm super annoyed today, they are bringing in all sorts of new early years changes and it is causing huge changes at daycares and the changes all mean fees are going up. Depending how much it looks like TTC in September will be put off. I'm also annoyed because we were going to visit friends next week then help my Mum out after a surgery and hopefully catch up with some other friends for dinner, but hubby has a training for work on Thursday now and his days off are Wednesday Thursday so I have to cancel all our plans to drive him too and from training and we don't get to visit friends or help my Mum out.
The good news, I got back into a pair of jeans that haven't fit me since 2007 when I lost a ton of weight before my wedding. About 2 months before the wedding hubby had surgery so I was working full time and caring for him full time and put a lot back on and it just kept creeping on and the jeans very quickly stopped fitting. Now I can pull them and some other super cute jeans out of storage and actually have jeans that don't fall down as I walk.

Elizabeth - I will definitely show pictures but it's pouring rain out right now so I'll take some maybe tomorrow as it's calling for sunshine. SO and I are very happy with the way they turned out.

Amy - YAY for last week of school! I hope it sails by and this time next week you'll be relaxing and enjoying your summer.

Wendy - That's so amazing about having old pants fitting! I lost about 20 lbs a few years ago and was stoked to put on clothes that hadn't fit me since high school! Keep up the great work. Also, sorry your week off isn't going to go as planned. I hope you do get some time to relax though.

AFM - not much going on here. It's been raining for the last few days so I've been hiding in the house reading. Have a BBQ tonight for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup (GO Canucks) but no other plans. It's nice to have a few days off to just lay around the house. SO is leaving for vacation for a week tomorrow so it'll be me and the pets. It'll be nice to keep the house clean for a week as SO can be pretty messy.

I'm on holidays, day 2 and I am bored. My car went in to be fixed today so I am walking everywhere or getting the bus. I was going to do some major housework today and bought all the stuff I needed when I did the groceries including a brand new pack of paper towel, which I left in the car so can't do some of the cleaning I planned (the oven, scrubbing out cupboards etc). Oh well I guess I should maybe at least vacum and mop, I don't want to be doing any housework this weekend because it's my birthday. I'm actually wondering if hubby will even remember, I know I won't get a gift, but at least a happy birthday would be nice. I'm not saying anything and not reminding him. He will be working so I won't even get dinner out or a nice cooked dinner at home.

Hi all! Well, it only took me three extra days, but I finally managed to finish up everything at school and am now on summer break! Yahoo!

Nikki~ I love the dress! When are you getting married?

Elizabeth~ It sounds like your new job is putting you through the paces! Will it let up any after you've been there for awhile? The prospect of a new car is exciting... any make or model in mind? "Jazz Under the Stars" sounds like a lot of fun! I love stuff like that! Is it free?

Wendy~ Glad your computer is all fixed! Getting back into old jeans is super exciting... Congratulations! How long is your holiday? Oh, and happy early birthday! I think you should take yourself out for dinner. Ronin can be your date! Smile

Sorry I've missed a couple QOTD's... I'm still adjusting to my new schedule. Since I'm not getting up before the two little monkeys, I don't have the uninterrupted computer time I used to, not that I'm complaining!

I had a week off, so I have tomorrow left. My Mum sent me a text today to suggest maybe after I dropped hubby at work tomorrow if he could get himself home I should go up and see if my friends are free for dinner, stay the night (I wonder if she really thought that through as Ronin is sleeping terribly lately and waking up multiple times crying because he is teething and sick) and come home Saturday. She had some surgery yesterday and thinks she can take herself grocery shopping on Saturday and maybe she realised thats not the greatest idea. My brother lives with her but is working late and goes out a lot on the weekends so he can't help.

Wendy-Hope your mom has a speedy recovery!

Amy-Happy that you are now on Summer break!

Erica-Sorry about the Canucks. You will hate me because my whole family is from Boston. I grew up in Texas, so I'm not a huge Bruins fan though. It's been so sporty lately, we were watching all the basketball finals because of the Mavs. I'm glad they won and I have my life back now. Where did SO go on vacation?

AFM-My car survived, so I'm going to hold off on getting a new one for awhile. The jazz concert was free, but we got there late and had to sit by a dumpster which sucked. Plus it was like 104 degrees that day. Wine and heat don't mix well.

One of my best friends had her baby girl last night! So happy for them. Babies are officially everywhere! It's that time in my life I guess. Seems like a baby is born like every two weeks on my facebook feed!
