Timing

While we're all waiting and thinking, are you waiting to try for a particular EDD?

Our plan for DD was to have a late spring/early summer baby so that we wouldn't be dealing with birth and a NB while we're in class. DD plans didn't coincide with ours as she arrived in late Sept just in time to derail my first semester of grad school. It all worked out though. For Next Baby, it doesn't really matter when our EDD is because we're both pretty much done with classes. My concern is avoiding a summer baby. I like that DD will be amongst the oldest kids in her class when she starts school. I'm a November baby and being older worked out well for me! I'm fairly short (5'4") and was always smaller in elementary school. If I'd started a year older I would have been SO much smaller than everyone else. Add that to being labeled as the really weird smart kid who likes math and raising her hand in class and its a toxic combination.

Anyway, I digress. I'm thinking of putting off initiating TTC until a cycle that will put my EDD at least close to the cut off. I'll "red shirt" Next Baby if his/her birthday is in late August (our cutoff is Sept 1st) but if we start in November, I'll have a late July EDD and that will make the decision of when to start Kindergarten all that much harder. So ... maybe the first cycle in Dec? Its not like I'm going to get PG the first cycle anyway. So why am I fretting?!!?!

hmmm, I guess I'm not trying for a particular EDD, but I'm avoiding certain ones instead. I really don't want a baby in June or December because my other kiddos are born in those months and I want them all to have separate birthday parties.

We were thinking of October to TTC, but might wait until November depending on when my O date would fall. October should be a mid-July baby with the cycle I'm currently on, but my kids come two weeks early, so I have to consider that baby would be July 1st and DS's birthday is June 21st, I'm thinking too close together? Then again, my cycles have been from 28 to 32 days so it could change a bit in the next couple months.

DS will end up being one of the youngest in his class and DD will be one of the oldest. I'm not that worried either way. If DS is "behind" I'll do more at home to catch him up. If DD is "ahead" I'll do more at home to keep her interested and learning. I also figure by 2nd grade they all end up in the range of where they should be.

What are the "red shirt" rules in your area - within 1 month, 2 weeks, or is there more leeway?

I want a the next baby to be born before June #)thirty which is the school cutoff here simply to save a year of day care. DS will be starting after he already turns five, if next baby is before the cutoff they will turn five that year. I kind of want to avoid a baby due in the wet season, but the timeframe between end of wet season and school cut off is slim so something has to give

I have always wanted and October baby (Fall/Halloween is my absolute favourite time of the year). I also would rather not have a March baby since my twins were born in March. But since it took so long to get pregnant with my twins, I don't want to temp fate by waiting until a certain time to TTC. But it's not likely that I will get pregnant right away anyways, so it might just work out Smile

Hmmmm. I didn't know there were rules around the softness of the cutoff. I figured I'd just show up when I wanted to.

they aren't typically written, but sometimes they will NOT bend the dates either way too far. You also might have to check out the laws in your state to make sure there is no rule that they have to enter school prior to 6.

I really want an October baby. My other two are spring babies, so I'd love to space it out a bit more. Plus, my brother is getting married in another country next summer and I don't want to have a newborn at that time, I'd rather be pregnant. So, we're definitely waiting til December at the earliest to ttc.

Also, I have to have a blood test done to rule out (or not) some health concerns that might mean pregnancy isn't an option. In which case we may not ttc at all. But I do want to wait until those tests are done.

Jordan- I am so excited that you are going to be TTC soon. I hope it all works out for you.

I would love an October baby as well. We have to wait to have a 2014 baby so I have until January 2014 to TTC. 18 more months to go. Yay. LOL.

i would prefer to not have another october baby, and I don't really want a christmas baby Blum 3 ultimately i would like a summer baby end of may-very early sept which is very soon! I'm hoping end of August early sept as I don't think DH is quite ready just yet.

We will be shooting for a late winter/spring baby next time. My birthday is in October, DH is in November, and DD is December so the winter is pretty crazy in our house. Plus, I'm a teacher so if baby is born mid June/July/early August, I don't get paid maternity. Sad

As for the cutoff for Kindergarden, in California (maybe federal I'm not sure) the dates will be changing each year for the next few years. This coming year will be Nov 1, next year will be Oct 1, etc. until I think August or September.
