Default anyone ever make a soaker?

im new to knitting my grandmother just taught me about 2 weeks ago, and i started to knit the ottobre soaker pattern and im stuck on the part where it says "pick up 32(36) stitches along the leg openings and work 6 rows in k1,p1 rib. bind off loosely."
i dont understand how to pick up 32(36) stitches along the leg openings.
if yall can please help understand i would really appreciate it!

What they're asking you to do is to knit the leg bands. Pick up 32 stitches for the smaller size, 36 stitches for the larger size and knit those in rib as prescribed. In case your grandmother didn't teach you, to pick up stitches, you go in with your needle just under the bind off edge and wrap the yarn around the needle and pull it through the same way you came in. The new loop should be coming out through the right side of the fabric (which is either side for garter - just be consistent for both legs) and you should have a seam on the other side.

I think knittinghelp.com by have a tutorial, but my work computer won't let me access the site.

Sorry. I find it really hard to learn from text, too. I think your grandmother showing you will make it click. GL - you're almost done!
