I literally like JUST got my kit!
I am self teaching via book and video! As of this afternoon I have learned to cast on with one needle and with two... and thats as far as I have gotten lOL!
Thought I would introduce myself... since I am sure I will have a bazillion questions... hope there will be someone here to help out a newbie!
I am Joee (i recognize alot of you!) and I am a SAHM to my two boys and knocked up again with ANOTHER boy. I have decided I am going to knit all their underwear from now on (with wool) and make them wear them when they are bad...
Ok ok... I just wanted a hobby, and knitting seemed a very fun and NOT so expensive one!
Hope to get to know you all!
So I already have a dumb first question...
When I am ready to take on my first potholder (isnt that what everyone does, a potholder?) Do I need to unroll my yarn from the skein and into a ball? IS this the way to do all yarn? Or do you leave it in the skein?
You can leave it on the skein. Try to find the end that comes out of the middle. Sometimes I don't do this because I can't find it right away so I just start with the other end. Shhhhh!
When the yarn comes as a 'hank' that's when you have to wind it into a ball.
Ok and another question for you...
I have discovered there are lilke 300,000 styles of knitting already.
So what "style" do you use?
So far I feel like the "Continental" stitching is a bit easier for me...
BUT I am learning the English too so I can use what I need when I need it!
welcome! congrats on boy#3

Welcome aboard! This place can be slow....but fun. I've been working on a hat for a very long time. I should finish it soon and post it. I knit less in spring and summer though...that's when gardening takes over!

I cant wait for SPRING!! LOLOLOL
So... how long do you all think it took you to get to the point where you could actually knit something? So far all I have done is knit, screw up, unravel, and repeat LOL...
I am determined to practice till I am GOOD. BUT i am getting impatient already LOL!
I was about 10 years old. I knit a scarf for my grandfather. It took over a year! I remember it was checks..in brown wool.
