KimPossible's Knitting Corner/Progress thread

ok! I'm going to start my progress thread. I don't have a picture of my work at this very moment, but I will start by posting a pic of the sweater I'm knitting....and I will try to get a pic of my actual knitting tonight...

This is the sweater I'm knitting

Its from the book "Special Knits" by Debbie Bliss.

I'm using a Rowan All Seasons Cotton that was purchased on sale, in a plum color.

I finished the back and I'm now working on the front!...more to come Smile

Oh...and dont' forget to start your own progress thread...lets show people what we are working on...and get this board moving!!

Great job. My DS' sweater was a Debbie Bliss Pattern, too.

So are you going to just keep adding to your first post?

Yeah, thats what I was thinking each of us could do....almost like we each had our own 'journal' so to speak here.

If there ever became too many of us on this board that all we had were journals journals journals..then maybe we could consider moving it all to one weekly thread or something.

But for now, i think it would give people a lot of fun threads to peak in on Smile

Thanks for asking Lol I have been making good progress! I have the back, front and hood all finished. I even wove in the ends already so that I don't have to be discouraged by all the loose ends later on Lol

So all I have left are the sleeves and then my favorite part...seaming! (dripping with sarcasm in case you don't know me) Lol

I haven't posted any visual updates because the whole thing is just stockinette stitch and is rather boring to look at. But maybe I will post a pic tonight when i get home.

I'm really anxious to finish this sweater, and now I feel like I'm in the home stretch so I'm more motivated Smile

Good going. So have you set a deadline now that you're almost done?

I very light heartedly thought I'd shoot for the end of this week. We are going out to Cape Cod this weekend to visit my Sister and her family and it would be nice to bring a smaller more portable project with me (which i just so happen to have all lined up alread..a felted hat for Emma, my 5 year old)

Ok, finally, pics of my progress so far. I'm not great at taking pics of my work, so don't critique the photography LOL

Front (with hood attached to shoulders, but top is not seamed), Back, and one of the sleeves on the needle.

Close-up

The sleeve on the needle is done now, so on to the last sleeve! I originally said Friday, but I will probably need the weekend to finish Smile

Like I said, not very exciting to look at right now as its just plain old St Stitch....but i promised to share, so there it is Lol

Done! My hoodie sweater is finito! Wanna see? Smile

The color of the sweater isn't very accurate in this picture...

Lillian wearing the sweater. A little big and chunky on her, but I think it will be a good outer layer for her in the springtime!

with the other kids...

Dont mind how desheveled everyone looks, i took these pics this morning, while they were all still in their jammies Smile

The sleeves seemed a bit long to me. I made them the length specified in the pattern, but I think i woudl have made them a few centimeters shorter if i did it all over again.

Anyway, for hte most part I'm happy with the way it turned out!

I already have another project all lined up, pattern, yarns, everything...here it is:

its a felted hat that I plan on making for Emma. This will be my first felting project so it should be fun. Patter is from pickupsticks

http://www.pickupsticksonline.com

I'm going to start it today! Thanks for looking Smile

What a sweet little sweater, well done! That felted hat is adorable too. Looks like they have some really nice patterns on their website.

Great Sweater! I think the sleeves being a bit long might make it last for a little longer time wise. Kids grow so fast it's hard to keep up!

I'm impressed at how fast yo've finished it!

Ok, the progress threads have inspired me to update mine.

I finished knitting the felted hat a while ago, but only got to actually felt it this past weekend.

here are some pics...

Before felting...it looks so huge! Fits right over Emma's entire head Lol

After felting...i took these pics a couple of days ago, as she was off to school. Don't mind her goofy grin, we were in a rush so i didn't wait around for the perfect picture.

I'm only half pleased with how the project went. I made a big booboo. When it was time to weave in the ends to each little french knot I had made on the hat, i did it the way I normally do...to kind of make it 'run along' with the stitches, so the woven ends are less noticeable on the back. However, once it came time to felt it, this made those ends show through the green into the front...you can sort of see what I'm saying from the finished pic, but its a lot more noticeable in person.

I think i might give this hat another attempt...however with a few changes. I think i'll do a more girly color scheme, in something like pink hues and I think i might just do stripes...no french knots this time. They were tedious, and i wasn't to enamored with the way they looked in the end!

But for my first felting project, i will say I still enjoyed it!

I've also finished a scarf that I had on some needles from literally YEARS ago. I've tried to commit myself to finishing up old projects. I haven't taken a picture of it yet, I will update this when I get a pic taken!

TFL!

It's very cute! I think you could've just knotted the ends of the french knots and cut the short and they would've just felted in to the fabric. Although, I've never actually felted, so I don't know if that's true. Wink

I think you are exactly right. After it was felted, those puppies woudln't go anywhere. The other frustrating thing about the french knots is, that if you don't do them perfectly, they don't come out looking great...they come out looking like you are learning how to make french knots Lol I don't make them that often so I'm not good at makeing them look perfect. I would prefer it if they were all nice neat little round bumps close to the hat fabric. Some of them though stuck out further than i would have liked and weren't entirely 'spherical' in nature Lol

I am so happy! I've been taking the time to finish up some old unfinished projects! I finished up the following two, they have been left unfinished for a couple of years...literally

The first is a scarf, it was probably my third project or so ever as a knitter. I bought some yarn at a yarn festival and didn't know waht to do with it. My mother-in-law suggested that since I was a fairly new knitter and it was a sock weight yarn, i'd be better off using it for a scarf...because it would be easier. So she gave me a simple pattern to follow, its done 2-ply, and on larger needles...i got bored with it quickly Lol

Now the following, i'm so excited to share! I started this sweater 2 years or so ago. I was making it for my friend who was having a baby...he will now be 2 years old this May and it will obviously not fit him. Lucky for me, my friend is having another baby boy any day now! So this little 3 - 6 month sweater will surely fit him at some point!

From the back:

I'm so happy with the way it turned out! I actually did the entire body and the sleeves ages ago, and all i had left to do was seam on the sleeves (body is one piece), do the neck ribbing, buttonholes/band, and sew on the buttons! So thats what I did this weekend and I'm thrilled.

Mo (she is my friend i was talking about and has been known to lurk here sometimes!) if you see this, it will be for your new little man when he arrives! I would have kept it a surprise, but i was just too excited I had to share.

Its by far the most pleasing thing I've finished in a long while. Why did I wait so long? Lol

Thanks for looking!

I like the hooded sweater a lot! I'm presently knitting one that is all cables, so it is taking a long time. It is the smallest size, yet it looks large. Amazing how patterns vary.

The pale blue sweater is fabulous! I'm just learning how buttons can really make the outfit. Your silver ones are lovely!
