knitters help needed

I came across this pattern... Dolphin Bay ...and I want to make it for my daughter...problem is, one of the abbreviations confuses the heck out of me. I have googled it and nothing.

This is what it says in the pattern...
Pick up 3 sts on the wrong side, in a diagonal line, leading to the next st to be worked or picked up, in the horizontal strands between knit sts.

And here is the row of the pattern that it is in...(I'll include a little snippet from the row above and below it)

Underarm

On RS row beg at right back and end at left back to establish underarm and upper bodice at midriff sts as follows:

Right Back: K4 (4, 5, 6, 6), WSpu3, puM-1, WSpu3, k7 (7, 9, 11, 11), WSpu3, puM-2;

Right sleeveless opening: cast on 14 (16, 16, 16, 18 ) sts for underarm (skip right sleeve);

Front: puM-4, WSpu3, k7 (7, 9, 11, 11), WSpu3, puM-5, WSpu3, k7 (7, 9, 11, 11), WSpu3, puM-6, WSpu3, k7 (7, 9, 11, 11), WSpu3, puM-7;

Left sleeveless opening: cast on 14 (6, 16, 16, 18 ) sts for underarm (skip left sleeve);

Left Back: puM-9, WSpu3, k7 (7, 9, 11, 1), WSpu3, puM-10, WSpu3, k4 (5, 4, 4, 5)—116 (120, 132, 143, 147) sts on 3rd needle. Do not tie off.

Anyone know how to do this???

Cute Cute pattern!

Pick up 3 sts on the wrong side, in a diagonal line, leading to the next st to be worked or picked up, in the horizontal strands between knit sts.

Without spending too much of my time on it right now, it looks like they are asking you to pick up and knit three stitches (while knitting on the wrong side row) using the horizontal stretches of yarn between the worked stitches. This is an increase of 3 stitches.

Keep asking if my words are not clear either.

I'm at a standstill on a project now because either there is a misprint in the directions or else I'm reading them wrong. The person who can help me will only be available on saturday and I'm impatient to get to work!!!

As you see, I'm sympathetic to your problem!:confused:

Thanks! She's my granddaughter. Aren't they both at a fun age though?

Love the two toned butterflies! Have fun with that.

I only glanced at the pattern, but I'm going to be brave and disagree wtih gardenbug. What Garden bug is talking about are M1s...from the way the pattern is wrriten it sounds like you are actually supposed to pick up stitches, the same way you would on an edge, like when you want to start a hood or put an edging around a cardigan sweater.

So insert your needle into your knitting, wrap the yarn around it, and pull it back out to create a new stitch....do it three times between the last stitch and your next one.

As opposed to actually lifting up the 'bar' in between stitches and knitting it.

Good luck! Tell us how it goes!
