Learning to crochet

Hi, I'm Amber. I am a mother to 3 boys and due with a new baby at the end of November. I'd really like to make the new baby a blanket, so today I went and bought a pretty pink yarn and a crocheting needle. I guess I didn't think it would be difficult but I'm stuck and frustrated. I've mastered making a chain, the problem is how do I build upon that? I can't figure out how to make my pretty pink chain into a blanket....HELP!!

I remember my first day! Staring at a looooong chain of wonderful crochet, thinking how the heck it was supposed to turn into something real!
It's so easy once you look back at it... and what is great, is that the single crochet (the one you use now) is the foundation for almost all the rest of the stitches.
here are a few links I used:

It's easiest for me to see it in person or video to pick it up; you may be different. If you need pics of a step by step, or written instructions let me know, I'd be happy to do it for you!

I second what the PP said. I still find this the hardest part of an entire project - picking up the chain to add to it. Trying to keep the chain from curling and keeping it straight while putting that second row on can be tough so I make sure to do that before I ever put it down!

What kind of blanket do you plan to make?

i've just been thinking that I wantto crochet a blenket - I've made a couple for friends but I haven't made one for my own baby due in less than a month now!

But so many projects that have yet to be finished too so can I really justify it? Lol
Do I need to?
