Default Lost my knitting guage. Help

I must have lost it in the move and now that I have to have a specific sized needle, I can';t figure out which size is which. Is there anyway to tell what size I am dealing with if I simply use a ruler instead of poking the needle through those holes? I'm kind of frustrated right now because I'm working on a soaker for my baby.

Sorry! I honestly don't know a good way to measure needles without a needle gauge. Although I have never owned a set of needles that didn't have the needle size printed right on it either.

Perhaps you could guess and knit up a quick swatch and see if it comes out to the right stitch gauge..and then adjust up or down in needle size depending on your results? In the end, the stitch gauge is all that matters.

    good luck!

Yeah my stitch guage is pretty accurate using the rigt needles. DD found it last nigh. I love her LOL. But then I realized the 5 I saw printed on my needles was actually a .5 and I was knitting the entire thing with size 8 needles instead. Oops. It's just a diaper soaker so I'm not too concerned. If it's too big I'll just wait until he grows enough to wear it.
