Here is where you share your dishrag tag journey with the rest of us! Just follow these simple rules!
1) When you receive a dishrag tag box in the mail, post here to let us know. Tell us who it is from and describe the contents. Pictures are always welcome and encouraged!
2) Take the new skein of yarn included in the box...and knit/crochet up a new dishcloth with it. Any dishrag pattern (knitting or crochet) will do!
3) Pack the new dishcloth and a new skein of yarn to send to the next recipient. Remember to only send machine washable cotton skeins! If you would like, you can also include a *very little* something extra in the box. We are talking small here, like a piece of chocolate or something similar, nothing elaborate or expensive! (this part is totally optional)
4) Send it off to the next recipient (you should have recieved this info via PM or email). Post here to confirm when you have shipped off your box
I had this post office notice that there was a parcel for me. Since I hadn't ordered anything; nobody has a birthday this month...so it was in the back of my mind that it might be dish rag tag.
Today I finished the work project I've been on all week and made it to town and IT WAS!!! In my package (Kim, you do a righteous taping job lol) is a beautiful brown cloth, a small container of J.R. Watkins citron hand salve, and a light blue donut-shaped skein of Debbie Bliss pure cotton. I will take pictures tomorrow. Have to get food for the kids before karate and won't be back till late (when they will be ready for food again)!
The pattern is neat -- a diagonal knit with eyelet? work around the outside and in the center; approximately 2" garter stitch border.
So I had the fun of anticipating. The excitement of opening (for a long time lol) and now I get to daydream through patterns deciding which would work well with a solid.
I have about 20 minutes before I need to seriously get in gear so did a little brightening (best I could) and uploaded pictures. Here they are:
The box...now to tip it over and dig in!
And the loot comes tumbling out! Even the tissue paper is pretty. I had been working with wool and cotton the last week and my hands did need the lotion. Living north of the middle of nowhere, I don't have local access to much variety, so a donut shaped skein got a lot of kid attention. lol Also in the picture -- 1/2 of butter dish, 1/2 of tea container, my plant rescue operation, a dab of the whole wheat sourdough loaf just out of the oven. Those weren't part of the package.
Isn't this a great pattern? I've seen the usual diagonal garter stitch ones, but this variation is way nicer. I may need to wander over and check out ravelry. It's huggable soft, too.
And finally, a couple of my *helpers.*
I have my skein and needles along. Sometimes you can bring them with you through airport security and sometimes you can't. We'll see. If I can, I'm hoping to finish while waiting for planes this business trip and get the box sent on later this week.
That's a neat looking cloth, Kim- was that a free pattern you can share the link with? or is it listed in your projects at Ravelry that I can take a look at ? It would be fun to do aKAL with the cloths in the swap here
Plus, I think that's one my folks would like. I'm making up all kinds of colors for them.
eta- Jules- it looks like the kitty is having the most fun of all
and I really want to try some of that sourdough wheat bread too.
Bonita, its in my ravelry queue along with a LOT of other dishcloth patterns. I didn't want to put it in my projects list because I didn't want any other dishrag tag participants to know what I was working on
And I need to apologize to you and a couple of other people who sent me their addresses...i have not given you your info yet! My four kids, my husband, and I have been passing around germs and taking turns being sick with some horrible cold. I will get it to you soon I promise!
oh good idea Kim well now that it's done you can add it to your projects. I still haven't figured that all out yet. But am working on it.
oh don't worry I'm not in a hurry- I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it is all.
Sicknesses and the flu is going around here too. Nicholas just had a fever he was fighting. I am doing all I can to keep us healfhty- and just hanging around here this week during his week off instead of heading off to Disneyland- or other kid places to go. I don't need him picking up germs from anyone, that's for sure. I don't even want to leave him at the gym daycare ykwim?
