    Default Quick question about knitting

When you are casting on a certain amount of stitches, does your slipstitch count for a stitch?
EX.- My pattern calls to start with 4 stitches. If I dont count the slipstitch then there are 5 loops on my needle. Is that right or wrong?

When you say slip stitch, are you referring to the 'knot' to tie on in the beginning? Yes, that counts as your first stitch.....if they tell you that you should have 20 stitches on the needle, you should have 20 loops, not 21. HTH!

I figured that was right, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

This was one of the things that confused me when i tried Crochet...less things count as stitches in Crochet than knitting!
